What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Not a mark viii but I had to do the heater core on my 02 towncar. There are surprisingly no tech articles on the new 98+ towncar and the ford service manual was half wrong. A blend door was a cake walk compared to this...

I was gonna do a write up but I got so frustrated I gave up.

Did one on the same last year, can confirm its no fun

So a blend door in a Mark VIII is easier than a 98+ TC? I don't remember there being much difference between a 98+ TC and my 2000 Grand Marquis, I have had the dash out twice in it, and have been neglecting the Mark VIII blend door because honestly I can do without heat 360 days a year.

Just knowing that it's broken will get you out there one of these days to fix it. Needing heat or not. :)

I agree, I love setting the 200 Grand Marquis to 74 degrees and letting it take over. Many times heat and cooling in the same drive would be nice (but again, not required), like car parked in shade in the winter, cold getting in, but warming up later.

However at 100 degrees yesterday it is still window down weather.

They are very much different. The removal for CV and GM are all on forums and youtube but none for a 98+ town car... i wonder why.

Firstly, most, if any, crown vics and grand marquis i see don't have rear air vents. Just to remove the vent(which you have to do if you don't wanna cut the vent box) you have to remove the center console which means you have to remove both front seats.

And then removing the plenum chamber. The crown vics and grand marquis verses the town car have a much different design. The CV and GM removal is quite simple by pulling some bolts and lowering the chamber. The later year town cars however you first have to remove the lower part of the chamber that attaches to the rear air vents... so it's right smack in the middle and you have to do it after you pull the dash. Then the chamber is extending much more out to the middle of the car which can't be removed so it doesn't pull out like the CV and GM and requires the removal of a couple more bolts.... all in all it was a very stupid design and i'm glad i'm done with it.

I've had my dash out and disassembled the blend door to check for broken teeth, had lunch and then put it all back together and test it and still have time before dinner on a mark viii. Yes this was a heater core and not a blend door but this thing took me a week!

After almost 2 years using the cheap $5 Anco blades from walmart they finally started misbehaving. Went there today to buy some more 134a/gauge and picked up a pair of the Supertech blades while I was at it.. Wlamart replaced the Ancos with ST, same manufacture (Fed-Mog) but they do have a better blade but no branding.

I laugh because quite a few friends and family buy the more expensive blades and they never last.

Oh, got a tire fixed (Bead) at my local Discount tire on Monday, who knew they fixed damaged tires for free? I guess it's nothing new i'm just late to the game. What's new..

Took the 95 for 100+ mile ride. New exhaust sounds good, but a little loud while driving. Going to add some sound insulation under rear seat. Seems to have more power. Ended up with 25.5 mpg, mostly frwy. Wonder if I'll ever see that 29 mpg again. A few more little things, and it'll be 100%.

I hate to do this, but I'm in desperate need of some gas money :( I'm trying to sell my Arnott front air shocks. I was planning to keep them as spares for the '95 in case the OEM's started leaking. But they seem to be doing fine and they're not that old. These Arnotts have less than 20k miles on them and they never leaked or rattled while they were mounted on the '97 LSC. They still have good compression and rebound and they have been kept indoors since removal from the car. They are the newer upgraded design. I would like to get $250-$300 plus shipping for them but just PM me any kind of reasonable offer :). Arnott doesn't make these anymore and a decent set is getting hard to find.

still measuring ohms on the ABS connectors for the white car. Death decided to visit: my valve block RR inlet valve circuit is open/infinite resistance
:q
I have a spare ABS assembly, but it's from a 94 or 5, and I think the 16 pin connector uses just 10 (not 12) pins....?
My gut instinct is to not repair the ABS...too much

I had to go downstairs and look, and see if my arnott's went for a ride. Do yours make the klunking noise like mine do? Don't need them, just messing with you. I was able to aquire some brand new MC's for the 95,and I love them. good luck with the sale. good price, should go quickly. TONYyyy

Thanks. I hope the sell quick! No, mine didn't make the clunk or rattle noise while they were attached to the '97 LSC. I put them on the '95 for a little while but I ended up putting the OEMs back on because they look fine and ride great and don't leak. The ones on the '95 had been replaced because they are the GEN2 type. I hate to get rid of these, but I really need some cash :(

CE Mudflaps.jpgCE Mudflaps 2.jpgWish I could help you out, but I have the same pair, and a set of ford's sitting around just waiting to be put to use. I got some Lincoln mudflaps I thought would look good on one of my CE's. Needed a little mod, but the rattle king is here. Pictures didn't come out to good, but their a perfect match. Thanks to alex for the CE ruboffs If you find somebody that want's 2 pair, let me know, I'll sell mine. Thanks TONYyyy Semper Fi and say a prayer for the boys we lost. Happy Memorial Day.

Drive it 100 miles to Phoenix, before it gets hot, and picked parts to fix the accident damage. So I ended up going to www.upullandpay.com (has 2 97s) and www.arizonapullnsave.com.

From upullandpay I got:
bumper cover (repainted gold, but seems solid all mounting points but one for the grille in perfect condition)
header panel (repainted gold, had a nick in it, but for 20 bucks, I grabbed it, all mount points excellent, one is slightly cracked for the headlight mount, and is cracked under passenger headlight)
headlight (it isn't pretty, I hope it will clean up okay, one bulb mount is a little messed up, but the interior reflective material seems fine)
defroster grille (but it is brown, I need to find the darker gray to spray it)
cowl (mine is very messed up, and noisy on the highway)

from arizonapullnsave I got:
pearl header panel (in much better shape than the other one, couldn't pass it up)
trunk trim piece (mine has zero plastic stand offs, this one is missing a couple but will be much better than what I have)
zip tube (mine leaks a bunch at the connection to the throttle body)
ashtray (again, it is cream or tan, need to find what lighter gray is used, need to clean it up it has 2 inches of soda with nuts and bolts stuck in it)
a variety of the lights from the doors

Overall I spent 140 bucks, less than 100 on the parts to fix it from the accident, I think I am going to also try my hand at painting them, I want it to look good, and have 1900 left over from the insurance check to spend on it (which will include new tires).
