What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

well, the unemployment lasted a whopping 09 days, weekend not included. If I'd known that ahead of time I would have enjoyed it. I'll soon behind the dash console of a Doppler ultrasound machine again, measuring the speed of blood at @50-600 cm/s

Picked up a set of 20 spokes from Kevin to cure my 55+ front end wobble which was a success. I'll be using 2 of the best looking ones on the front during the summer and using the 2 less visually pleasing ones in the front for the winter months, they have better tires anyways. So my original set (All 4 had a slight but annoying incurable wobble in front) will be used on the rear only.

Today I polished up the 2 good ones and put them in front. Monday I'm taking it/them in to get the weights put on the inside and to have one of the tires flipped so the sidewalls are the same.

Fwiw, Kevins car looks just as good in person as it does in pictures. :)

It also made me realize just how bad my car needs some paint correction. :(

As ole Bruce told me, chrome on the bumpers, and side moulding= base. True exhaust "twice pipes" would be another way of telling. It had a few bees living under it, so I bug bombed it. It's just a base with an LSC card. But it's nice. With 57K, it's just broken in.

Im still in the "breaking in" process my self @ 37k. Sooo much life in the car. Almost like she's pissed for being inactive for so long. Spun the tires out in reverse yesterday lol. Looks like me n' the 97 are getting broke in together!

I washed my black on black 98 lsc and I am about to put some fresh royal purple in here and give her a light quick buff. That's it.

got my arse handed to me by a 2003 tahoe z71 and i backed into a curb stuffing my.mufflers im still not used to them hanging so low

I'm officially SUPER pissed right now. Took two of the new 20 spokes in the to get new stems, sidewall match and the weights put on the inside so that they won't be seen. And guess WTF happens to the known good balanced wheels when the weights are put on the inside? FCKING WOBBLE!!!!

So that means my original set was fine the whole time, they just don't cooperate with interior weights. Wish somebody would've told me this 2 years ago...

You need to find someone who know how to do a dual plane balance.
They will balance just fine without weight on the outside.

uhhh yes. they put the weights on the outside for a reason. it makes them balance.

You can balance a wheel with weights behind the face of the wheel. You should know this.

I'm done with all of this nonsense and will be taking it back tomorrow to have them do a regular ol' dynamic balance on the set. It'll look like crap but atleast there won't be any wobble. Sigh.

Just totally bummed out that I bought a set of wheels thinking mine were bad when it was the balancing technique the whole time.

I don't allow them to put hammer weights on my Octi's. I've had the wheels balanced two different times, only with stick on weights inside, and I've never had wheel wobble.

When I bought the first set of 20 spokes I must've had the first tire place balance them a half dozen times till I finally gave up. A couple months later I took the front 2 to a local dealer that had a road force machine and had them balanced, same result. At that point I figured something was wrong with the wheels. Got 2 new tires installed at discount tire a year or two ago and...Yup, wobbles still there. Just learned to live with it. Figured I'd buy Kevins just to see what the deal was and they were great. Weights were on the inside/outside lips, I feel like that's where they need to be in order to balance these particular wheels properly.

I am probably their worst nightmare, but before I even get to tires I make them write down:
stick on weights (no clamp on weights on the outside, and I have 1/8 inch gap on the front with the spindle, I already know what happens with crimp on weights)
hub centric rings (don't lose them)
3/16 spacer in front (without it the wheels tighten up against the spindle, no bueno)
no air suspension (I tell them that on my Grand Marquis to so they don't mess up my trunk liner looking for the shut off)

Then we can decide on tires.

Took some stuff to the scrap yard. 4 Chrome 10 spoke rims=43.50-3rd cat=40.00- radiator=3.30. I don't know if I got screwed by the scrap yard, or maybe it's the state I live in. $86 feels good in my pocket.
