What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Maybe it needs some more time to officially light up the CEL. Cap going bad maybe? Is it aftermarket?

Dunno, reset it drove through a couple of towns yesterday then went 4 towns over for a Birthday dinner last night and no Cell light came back on.gas cap is factory and does not seem to be ad but I don't have the tool to check it. So all I can do is wait and see if the Cell comes on again

Anybody know a way to do some kind of a "soft reset" on a 93 mark VIII besides unplugging the battery so I can get quicker shifts? I know you can hold the ignition in the crank position on the gen 2s but on the gen 1's that's a nono.

Well... your sig says you're chipped.. why not just play with the shift points?

Wait....what??? Hold the key in the crank position? wouldn't that keep the starter spinning and mess it up?

It could temporarily add some juice by acting as an alternator if you have a huge sound system in the car. You gotta bump up the decibelz. :D

Meh, gave it a good cleaning and finished my big 3 after only doing the grounds in the spring. Gained a little voltage but will have to drive it more to see if any of the annoying dimming issues stop.

What size battery do you have?

Duralast gold 1000ca/850cca.

Sometimes while sitting at a light in the morning with eveything else on there will be a noticable surge/dimming when the cooling fan kicks on. When it's really cold in the am (<25) the climate control display flickers while at idle when the fan starts. It's annoying, just wanted to finish this project to see if it helps at all. It hasn't been tested in the cold cold since I upgrade the wiring.

Didn't happen on the way to work this morning. Crossing mah fingers

I have that same exact battery, Never have any dimming with the system or fan. Not sure what's going on with that but it might not hurt to take it and have it checked. They have good warranties on them. 3 year free and anything after that is pro rated.

lol, I've had this "same" battery since 03.....

Actually it's probably my 10th or 11th replaced under warranty. :D Think I had to pay 30 bucks once, but thats it. It was in my caprice, marquis(para drain) and now the lincoln. I want to say this is the third in this car. Storing it over the winters killed the first 2. Ever since it's been the dd I haven't had any issues.

Charges @ 14.6 at startup, 14.1 warm at idle and stays there with everything on.

I also read a 14.1 at a warm idle. Have the same battery in the truck. Both are 3 years old, almost.

I like them for the price. They usssssed to be 1000/900 up until a few years ago. If I wasn't such a jew i'd grab a nice group 65 diehard platinum from sears. Now THATS a good battery.

I have interstate batteries in my Expedition, boat, the 98 and my Cadillac SRX. I have killed the Expedition twice by leaving the satellite radio on for two weeks. Jumped it both times and it has come back to life and never let me down. The 93 has some off name battery in it since I bought it 2 years ago. When that dies, it will also get an interstate.

Johnson Controls makes Interstate, Duralast, Die Hard, Motorcraft and many others. Well, here, check it out. It's something a lot of people don't know about but for the most part, it's just a name on the same battery. Mine was $114 I believe and has like a 8 year warranty with the first 3 years being free replacement. Some places just give different warranties. Seems like there are only three battery makers in the world but Johnson Controls may have bought one of them out already and made it two.

Your knowledge and ability to find out all this stuff is mind blowing!!

lol, I learned about the three battery makers a long time ago, when I was younger from an old man. I had a 77 Cutlass Salon, 2 door with the shifter in the center and my battery had died. I told the old man that I was going to go get the biggest Die Hard they made or, whatever would fit in the car with the most power and he told me that "it didn't really matter about the name because it is most likely going to be made by the same company" then he told me that there were only three battery makers and I thought he was crazy because I had seen so many different names so I later researched what he said and it was true. Johnson Controls just slaps different brand name stickers on the sides because of the different stores. I always thought Interstate was one of the makers because it was so well known but now you see who really makes it. :D

Johnson controls does make most of the batteries you will find out there, but they are not all made to the same standards. Just like Scat and Hawk crankshaft come out of the same foundry in China but have very different quality control. A Motorcraft or Interstate battery is made to a higher standard than a Duralast or Autocraft from the parts store. Every Duralast or Autocraft I have ever owned has leaked at the terminals and been warrantied at least once. Can't say the same for my Interstates and Motorcrafts they have been great.

I work for Johnson Controls and yes they have a huge battery division. They have basicly bought up the battery producers and are now doing the Hibrid batteries as well.

It's the same thing with TV's. Samsung makes the panels for Best Buy's brand TV Insignia. Although the panels are Samsung, they are not the same quality of a panel installed in a TV bearing the Samsung name.
