Nope. I work at SoCal TRACON. We handle everything from Magic Mountain to Palm Springs to the Mexican border. I work departures off of LAX, LGB, SNA, HHR, SMO, TOA and some enroute traffic. I used to work LAX arrivals and departures then they split the two functions. I got bored working the arrivals (once you master speed control the challenge just really isn't there) so went to work all those departures. That, and since Sept 11 the arrival traffic count is waaay down. Pre-9/11 the total LAX count was between 2300 and 2400 per day. Now, it's in the 1900 range. That's quite a slow down.
Anyway, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Working traffic is such a rush!

My ex-step dad was a drag racer (stock eliminator class) so I've been wrenching on cars since I was 10. My first job was working in my step dads auto repair shop at 12 years old doing oil changes, tire rotations, tune ups etc.

41, Spent many years IT, after a layoff switched to Human Resources, after that layoff got a Independent Insurance Adjuster's license and some insurance company certifications and hoping to make it the last career I ever have. Former Air Force, was in during the first Desert Storm but never made it over there. I was a welder/machinist in the military.

28, have owned a marketing company for the past 5 years. Before that was an auto technician bit I slipped 2 discs in my back and didn't feel like wrenching anymore. Between my chevelle and the ls I get my share of tinkering in though.

22 and have a cdl which I was making use of these last 2 years... But I've had a change of heart and I think maybe driving isn't what I wanna do :S

I got ya. You are what I used to call "Center" or ACC. Man, that's a lot heavier load than TCA. You are pushing a whole lot of tin out there. I had enough trouble just learning to speak on the radio let alone managing operational tasks.

45 ~ worked for many years in Manufacturing, specifically, Digital Equipment of Canada,
where my last position was Instructor & Trainer for the SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Phase I division.
Dealt with in-house process documentation control and Fuji Robotics pick and place equipment Operator training and certification.
After the Compaq take-over, lay-offs happened as they shut the place down.
Moved onto re-training for a Network Specialist diploma, which led me to a job with the Canadian Medical Association,
where I worked in the IT Operations group and spend most my day getting bugged out on NT, SQL and UNIX systems,
After years of answering the phone and listening to everyone's damn problems, I left that cubicle for unemployment.
While stressing about not return to IT, I realized that even during hard times, when people are losing jobs left right and center,
they still head to the stores to get their basic necessities and commodities. Guess what brings that there ?
That's right ... TRUCKS, even during economic recessions, when unemployment is at it's highest level, Truck drivers are still
working every day, bringing loads of goods to the stores, pumps and construction sites.
so I answered and ad and 8 weeks later, they honoured me with a ticket to drive the Big Rigs and now I get paid very well,
to see less of my wife and more of the country.
I shift 13 all day and run all over the US and Canada with either freight or furniture.
Currently work for a popular moving company which keeps me in excellent shape with a mix of freight runs as well.
On average, I'm anywhere between 500-1100 Kms per day.
I spend most my day in the truck listening to my full Kenwood system with large sub
and pretend I have no brakes and yell at four wheelers to get out of my f*cking way ...
I love this job but can't stand the following;
- Anything longer then 1 hour to get loaded or unloaded. (start to loss money)
- People that just don't understand the fact, that I do "own" the road, they are just borrowing it.
- Cars that keep on rolling up to the white line, while I'm hanging a wide right turn.
- Cars that get in front 80,000 lbs and then proceed to slow down.
- Border Patrols, DOT, MTO, Cops and Plain wrappers.
- Daily log book requirements (basic book of lies)
- Metro Traffic jams
- Red lights
oh ... and I don't stop for yellow lights, so be forewarned!

Information Security Engineer, but really a manager of a team of 40~50 engineers and the "public face" to our customers.
I wish. Still on the TSA side. I have some other options though. They have openings and i could transfer but im not in the shape i need to be right now. They also start about 10K higher than what i make right now. Good job but it has its pros and cons also. Better than being a street cop though.
Regardless anything in the fed government is good. stay 20 years and you get that pension plus still have a separate TSP(401K type plan) and of course all the healthcare benefits.

MAN, bunch of young guys here! 2 of my 3 kids are older than most. Now 49 feels old! LOL. Mechanical Engineer for a small manufacturing company specializing in material handling equipment for tire/rubber and automotive industries and engine enclosures for several pump companies. Been doing the same thing for almost 30 years and have worked for 3 different companies in that time.

I am 21 and a Lab Tech for a urinalysis drug testing lab. Not my dream job. Plan on going back to school for computer science or something similar. I enjoy building and fixing computers so hopefully sometime in the near future that's what I will be doing.

I wish semis would pass each other faster then 0.02 mph! You already went through the trouble to change lanes, grab a gear and get the F out of my way!
Keep your big ass out of the left lane too unless you are passing painfully slow!
Other then that, please run over those who don't know how to maintain speed or are completely oblivious to their surroundings. Darwin endorses this approach!
