what to do about filling removed chrome trim from bumper covers

devilchild. get geno's permission on either of those and i'll hook ya up!

poniesviii. do you mean just the logo lit and the background not? it can be done either way. just let me know what you have in mind.

email is warlockpain@hotmail.com

for those of you interested in a kit, please bear with me. i'm currently looking for suppliers of potentiometers for the dimming feature.
i'll only use top notch parts, but still want to keep the cost as reasonable as possible.
devilchild and ponies,i'm working on your ideas as well.

A question that nobody has asked, do you have any pics of it in the daytime? Does it fill in the area where the chrome was before?

just took some today(not lit) and it does fill the recessed area. it doesn't bring it out flush with the bumper cover, but it does cover the inside of the recessed area. will post non lit pics shortly.

yeah i know! i need to get a decent digicam. these pics do it no justice at all!

I wonder if it was spray tinted if it would still be plenty bright.

kustomizingkid: you are only limited by your imagination (and wallet) lol

battery: it is currently offered in about 18 different colors, with the dimming option you can create even more, and if that's not enough you could get white and cover it in translucent vinyl in the color of your choice.

unity: i wouldn't recommend a spray on tint as the paint type chemicals may degrade the laminate moisture/uv barrier, however ,window tint might work but would definately darken the color when lit.

pimplinc: got any ideas for the mark?

to all: my contact info is in this thread, website is still under construction(check it out so far),but you can get me by email or phone anytime day or night and weekends.

Well I must say then I want to buy the cobra R hood from Geno & get you to make Make A giant light up Cobrastar for the hood kinda like the firebird...

Let me know if it would be do-able and of course Geno's Permission for use of the cobrastar logo

that is the only Idea I have...and must say Just got me really excited:D

ohh and to Joey Could I get the LVC Logo made in to a big light up back window emblem in white???

absolutely doable! wouldn't exactly be cheap(what on these cars is cheap?),but would be awesome!

as for the LVC logo, joey needs to chime in.
i've spoken with geno and we will be working together on the lit cobrastars.
the cobrastars will be on a per order basis, priced according to size, and will take a little time to make as each one will be custom cut.

IF<--- enough interest is generated on the lit cobrastar in a certain size, then they MAY be available through LMS.
Geno needs to chime in concerning this

Are the larger 'decals' cut from one large sheet or would they be formed from single strips put together? Can you sell just the sheets for us to do our own custom stuff? As far as painting, you can find plastic friendly clear coats. If they offer so many colored overlay options why not tinted also. Seems obvious that people would like to tint out during the day for a stealthy look. I wasn't too interest in this until I washed my car at a new autowash place and the two chrome strips behind the doors blew off.:( Black out or the tinted/dimmed red seems the way to go. Gino, pm sent.

the larger stuff is cut from a single large sheet, but it must be relaminated to prevent moisture intrusion. this is not something for the average do at home project (custom cuts). in the end,you would probably find that it would be cheaper and quicker to just buy it already custom cut and overlayed.

the EL lighting was created for home/business/sign and auto use,so the blacking out was not factored into the design of the lamps themselves.

tinting (overlaying with translucent vinyl or window tint) would be the way to go.

i'm redoing my front bumper cover strips in rich red instead of international red.
the international red looked a little too pinkish orange for me. rear will be done in rich red as well.

the cobrastar rear window logo (lit) is in the works.no word on an exact price as of yet.

for those of you interested in kits: to do the front and rear bumper covers only, in the color of your choice without the dimming feature will cost $175. to add the dimming feature, add $25. this kit will include 2 inverters to simplify the wiring.this does not include the recommended 1/4" 3m moulding tape to attach it.the 3m stuff can be bought at most auto parts stores.

if you want to do the sides as well,of course it will add to the overall cost.however i haven't nailed down a price on the side kits.

just to let people know, based on my measurements,to do the whole car takes approx 29 ft of el tape. for just the bumper covers it's close to 18 ft .the 2 front sections are 41" each and the rear measures 10ft!

tested a strip behind dark tint. results were: when off it was blacked out. when lit,it was only barely dim, definately still very bright !

resurrecting this from the dead.
i've decided to go with a clear acrylic/led setup instead of the electroluminescent.
can do either though, but the acrylic/led combo will be much easier and cheaper.

will post pics when i get it on the car and wired up(probably in another thread)
