Winter driving, Standard height time?

Since it's the dd I feel it should be higher as I highly doubt it'll get through this winter as easily as it did the last one. Just knowing that a 5+" snowfall will clog my fenderwells and use my lower bumper as a plow doesn't help. That type of stuff starts breaking things.

So what are yall's opinions on the matter?

p.s. All I'd have to buy is a front set as the reg rears are already in the garage.

i don't know how in the hell anyone drives a mark viii in anything over 2 inches. i can't get out of my driveway with that little snow. much less feel safe driving around with all those other idiots who don't know what they're doing. use the powerstroke for that.
 
My 95 Suzuki Swift is an absolute bear in the snow. We get some in BC and my Mark will not go out when it's over an inch.
 
I've got an AWD 5.0 Mountaineer...it never snows here. Only thing it needs is a new owner
 
I've always had some kind of truck or SUV to supplement my cars just in case of inclement weather. But I have driven both of my Marks (as well as most if not all of my other cars) in snow with little difficulty. Of course, it takes some skill to maneuver a big rear-drive car in the snow, but it's far from impossible. I once drove the '97 LSC sideways halfway to work one snowy winter morning:D Why? Just because I could:cool: Now that was fun!
 
Used to drive my TA all over N.Y. and a bit in Canada, no its not impossible, but there's Sooooo many better options than a FRW in the snow
 
Drove my 8 in one of the worst snow storms 2 years ago on Taconic parkway from NY to Killington VT to go skiing. I think I was the only car, non suv on the road that night. Wasnt fun, but I made it somehow.
 
i usually see FRD. front engine, rear drive, but its all the same really.

See, I've never seen either of those acronyms used, which is why I was stumped when I saw the "FRW". I was thinking, what? Front Rear Wheel? Fat Rear Wheels? Ford Racing Wheels? Far Reaching Weather? Fvcking Rather Walk? I've seed FWD (Front Wheel Drive), RWD (Rear Wheel Drive), AWD (All Wheel Drive), 4WD (4 Wheel Drive), 2WD (2 Wheel Drive), and 4x4 (4 by 4) used frequently. But now I have a couple more to add to my list. It's always good to learn new stuff.:)
 
I've been driving rwd v8's for the last 10 years so thats not something new to me. Yes, a mk8 is a bit different but it's still manageable in the light to mod snow I exp last season.
I'd love a second car again but storage would be a concern for the eight. I still have time so its possible things could change. Just tryin' to look at all my options.


I could do atleast 2 snow tires out back and the conv for 400ish. Thats alot less then a :q:q:q:qtyy second car.

Thankfully, I haven't had any problems with my 4x4 system on the Exploder yet. It still works great. It's got manual locking hubs with push-button shifting transfer case. I've used it a few times and so far it's been doing great. It's a '94 and only has 153k miles on it. But I am not looking forward to when something break$$$$$:D
 
although not super tough, the manual locking hubs are way tougher than the auto locking ones. and use that electric transfer case at least once a month. just put it in every setting and roll up and down the driveway. the electric motors get stuck and they won't shift properly.
 
Leave it, and just hope this winter is as mild as last winter, I think I drove mine in the snow twice last year maybe..and it got through it just fine..
 
drovein sno growing up in boston, camaros, t/a's 5.0's what gets me is here in florida when it rains everyone slows down to 45 on the hwy like its snowing! i just dont get it. i mean theres ALOT of old people down here but even they mostly came from up there.obviously dont drive in the snow if you can help it, but i think raising it would be a better option, and a skinnier tire puts more pressure on driving spot, more traction.

its still july man,your already thinking winter cub scout? LOL. stock height winter tires skinnier, or stock size. or rig up a lawn fertilizer spreader under the front bumper and spread salt n kitty litter in front. we'll make millions just on copyright alone! you know what bugs me? i grew up driving in snow in boston, been in fla for a while, every time it rains here people slow down on the interstate like its a blizzard. 35-40 mph in the rain. and in dont mean thunderstorm complete deluge of rain just regular run of the mill rain. they do that up there , too?

I drive my mark 365 +. I havn`t any problem in driving in winter. drive carefully and it`s normal from crushless winter drive.
