Wtf!!! What yr is this 1996 1/2???

the instrument gauge is only found in 97.98.. this is not a 96, and the ad shows 98

1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
72k runs strong, 8 cylinder 4.6 liter motor
All new suspension Shocks and struts, All new tires, new battery.
No stereo, Broken driver seat, and small leaking sun roof.

I posted this in the CL section earlier this morning.

Either the car was rear ended and some moron fixed it with a rear clip from a first gen OR they swapped a nose and interior with 2nd gen stuff. I believe the door strikers on 98s are chrome and not painted black like this. Little details that the average person wouldn't think to change. This could be easily solved by looking under the hood or checking the door jamb sticker (if its still there) eitherway this dude is falsifying mileage or information about the car.

Looks like a gen1 with interior and nose from a gen 2.

The rear bumper seam is a dead giveaway. That's not a '98!

they either converted everything in the car to 2nd gen to get the gauge cluster to work, or something fishy is going on.

its more than just interior. you need wiring and computers to get the gauge cluster to go.

The entire interior is that of a 97,98.. Either someone went to a lot of trouble to convert it over, or a lot of misdirection to photograph an interior of a 97,98 for the mileage...
After looking at the rear light assembly the shell appears to be a 97,98 The trim over the mirrors, (Black outer Lip) it appears to be accurate as a 97,98

It appears to be the same body style down to the rear bumper..

False..zoom in on those c-list pics, it is a 1st gen tail light, trunk lid and rear bumper, 2nd gen rear bumpers never had the chrome strip. After 2nd thought this had to have been repaired for som odd reason with a rear clip from a 93-96..there's so much other crap involved with making all of the 2nd gen interior features work let alone the odometer for someone to just want to swap interiors..even the little release thingy on the floor next to the drivers seat..that's 2nd gen specific..who would think to swap that over??

After even further scrutiny, The bumper line is straight from under the tail lights to the wheel well with a 1 inch metal body under the lights, and on 97and 98, the bumper is flush with the rear tail lights and curve around in the corner of the lenses and then to the wheel well. The back half of this car is pre 97 but a lot of work went into making it a 97,98 from doors all the way forward.

That's the thing it probably is a 98. I would put money on the fact that it has a 2nd gen engine under the hood and that somebody probably had the rear end repaired with 93-96 1/4 panels, trunk lid, lights bumper etc. Theres simply too much work involved with getting all of the 2nd gen electronics to work in a 1st gen interior for the average guy to just want some newer looking seats and dash. Much less work involved with just having a body shop replace the rear 1/4s and paint it...anyways I think were just beating a dead horse here..unless someone wants to solve this mystery by just calling the guy.

LMAO.. I was actually thinking of doing just that!!! I may call him to find out what the mystery is.. :p

This is a really tripy case. But IMO, I think it is just as hard to replace the rear quarter panel as you would have to cut it off another car and then weld it.

Edit: Those are Continental wheels. And are you guys sure that 98 didn't come with the chrome latches? Either the previous owner of my 98 replaced them to chrome or some of them did come with one.

Those plastic sill covers, are those gen 1 or 2?

Just looked again, no power antenna.

Good eye..forgot about the antenna..as well as what looks like stainless steel door lock inserts instead of the first gen black plastic piece that surrounds the lock.

Body shops don't find that kind of work difficult as they do it all the time, and depending when it was done new sheet metal may have been available still from ford. On the other hand think of how much labor would be to swap over all the electronics, wiring hanesses interior and friont end parts if someone would have had it done for them..and I have a feeling the owner wouldn't do that kind of work himself.

Well if it is done right, that might be a good car for someone looking for Gen I exterior with a Gen II interior if they do the front end also.

My car's a 98 and it has chrome door strikers (built in Oct or Nov 97, can't remember). The black ones appeared halfway through the model year.

It does make more sense that the car is a 98 with a first gen rear end. The amount of work needed to bring everything else up to second gen specs dwarfs that needed to weld on some quarter panels. I doubt they did it for the looks, most likely it was wrecked.

IMHO - photoshop....
1 - no one in their right mind is going to pay the price to put a 1st gen rear end on a 2nd gen then abuse it the way the seats have been
2 - we all love those dang trunk lights, even if it does look like a plumbers buttcrack
3 - the rear is deff gen 1, taillights come to point, gen 2's are rounded...
4 - the real give away is the line on the lower frame under the opening of the door. Gen 1 or 2 are a solid piece, this pic shows a line (I zoomed in 650%, it's a line)...
5 - a play on how easy white is to photoshop...
6 - and for some reason the front end and the back end are not to the same scale... looks weird to my eye...cant point it out...but the front end looks shorter then it should be in comparison to the rear...
7 - the reflection on the windows is not the same
8 - the white is jacked up it gets...photoshop fuzzy...specifically where the trim is concerned, the tip of the bumper is almost smooth, but the piece closer to the front qtr is clear - some on the door in a few places.
is that the drivers side pic?? can't be

not sure why someone would photoshop it like that...but just my observations

Smooches Hotties!

Photoshopped? Lol not likely..if so then why not smooth out the ****ty seats and throw on some less garbage looking wheels..I don't think the owner of this car cares enough about it to bother with photoshop..nor does he probably know the difference between a 1st gen and 2nd gen mark viii and probably doesn't even realize his car has the wrong rear quarter panels on it, my guess is he probably bought it that way.

I've seen better pranks pulled by lesser ..... spend a sec and calculate the cost and labor that would be expended to mutt a gen I and a gen II...if someone layed out that much cash..they would not let it go at only 72k, and those seats would not look like the great divide.

SVT- what insurance company would go to that expense?

Most of all explain #2....even me!! with gen1 blood in my veins...I'd cream at having the tail lights of a gen 2, and would not PAY or REQUEST to have a gen one taillight assembly. DISCLAIMER: I apologize to all my gen 1 lovers..wait, no ...no I don't, you know I speak the truth - we all want (ok DREWL for) the light assembly but NOT THE DUMBED DOWN HUMP!!

and I still say there is something wrong with the scale....the front and rear just are not right...per scale....

and someone3 please tell me where the second pic came from - its obviously not the same mark?????wtfreak?
