Interested in any trades? I need to get back into a Lincoln! I have a 1999 Cobra vert with full saleen kit, roll bar, wheels, and speedster cover. Also a 1997 cobra that is built/vortech blown with built IRS.
Whats the CPS? I have checked both the crank and cam sensors and they seem fine and show the correct resistance. Would leaving the battery out of the car for awhile change anything?
I can take it out and take it to them to be tested? I just don't know what could happen. The battery was out for a week, I changed the steering rack and oil and now it won't start. It cranks just fine just doesn't fire up.
hopefully that isnt my problem. I checked my fuses and relays and they are all fine. I think my clockspring is shot because my horn doesn't work but i swapped the relays to try it anyway. The anti theft light is only on when the door is open with it closed and door locked the light is off. any...
Was there ever a resolution to this? I didn't have my battery, oil, or steering rack in my car for about a week. When all back together it doesn't start! It cranks but doesn't fire up.
ah ok it just didn't seem right to me and i've never replaced a rack before. I was scared and thought I messed up the steering wheel orientation. Thanks guys
So then the rack will be justified to the left or right and the tie rod ends will compensate for this? Wouldn't that mean i cant turn as far left or right depending on which way its done?
So its ok to have the rack at center and mount it with the steering wheel upside down? What will they do to fix it that I haven't tried. I'm so confused.
Im about to just drive around with the steering wheel upside down until I can figure it out. If I were to put the rag joint together with steering wheel upside down is there another way that I can unbolt something and turn the wheel around so its rightside up?
I don't know why but when the rack is centered, the only way for the shaft to go on is when the steering wheel is upside down. I have a 98 LSC and was putting a new 96 in for the quicker ratio. Were the rag joint orientation different in these years? I can only get it together with steering...
I'll get a solid joint in the future I just need a daily driver right now. The rubber and joint seem to be in good condition anyway. But I still need some help with the orientation.
When on the ground looking at the joint, The key way is to the right on the rack and the head of the bolt is on...
This looks like a great deal! I'd buy the car if you don't. I have a 1998 LSC red with black interior and its been great. Just make sure the basic things are fine like hids, air suspension, rear ballast, and other things specific to our car. Good luck and good find
Finally got it all back together woooo! Finally will get it back on the road. I'm not familiar with the steering parts though. The steering wheel is straight but the rack isn't equal on both sides. Its further to the right. When its even the steering wheel is upside down. Is this okay?
I finally got my steering rack in place and was getting to the rag joint but can't figure which way it goes in. On the rack its a D shape but I can't find any flat side on the rag joint. Anyone have a picture or remember how theirs is?
I am having the hardest time getting to the 2 line fittings going to the top of the rack. I can barely get a wrench in there to even grab the fittings. I even removed the oil filter to try to get to it from the other side.
Should I be able to pull it down enough to get it from the bottom? Or...
I can't see anything its totally restricted. The only thing I can see is where the steering column comes down. I guess if i take out the last bolt it will allow the rack to be pulled down. I just don't want to damage the hydraulic lines moving it all around.
