To find a actuator for the blend door

If it's broken teeth on the gear (I believe this is the most common failure) you can repair your current one easily. The gears are the same between the Taurus, Sable and Continental. Probably many others as well but I'm not 100% sure. Pop apart a manual actuator and pull the 2 gears...

    air conditioning

The clutch will not pull in for a number of reasons; refrigerant charge is too low, bad cycling switch, bad clutch, wiring short, etc. so don't use that as a diagnostic. If you really want to tackle this yourself, I would invest in a set of A/C gauges. You can get them pretty cheap at...

    Fricking Transmission is shot now

It can be made better, but there's no way to make this transmission "bulletproof." Don't be surprised if your shifts are significantly firmer and more noticable.

    Moon roof upholstered.

Why did you take the sliding shade out in the first place? I doesn't really make sense to me to remove it and then cover the glass with fabric, but if you're happy...

    Contineltal engine swap

I thunk you're going to be out of luck on this. The Continental engine has a FWD pattern and I doubt it would be cost effective to have an adapter made up. If you could find a Mark VIII, you would have the RWD pattern that you are looking for.

    Steering wheel swap

I would be shocked if the EATC or audio buttons would work in a '97. The good news is you can use a wheel from a Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, or Town Car with the same style switches. The CV and GM wheels do not have illuminated cruise control switches, but you can pry the ones out of your wheel...

    Power Steering in 97 Conti

I didn't realize you took the car to a dealer. They may or may not be any good, but they certainly won't be the cheapest. I would suggest finding a reliable independent mechanic. Ask your family and friends who they use.

    Possibel New addition?

Very pretty car. Price seems a bit high to me, you might want to lowball the dealer and see if he bites. The console mounted pop-out cupholders suck. I don't trucs anything in them that doesn't have screw top. Hopefully the bench seat models have a better one.

    Power Steering in 97 Conti

Considering it sprang from the Taurus platform, the Continental is a very complicated car. As much as I love all the options, I accept that they are potentially more components that can fail. I got an error message regarding the power steering a while back on a particularly cold morning...

    Update on Rear View Mirror

I've been e-mailing Steve and Dani, but lately they have stopped answering. It's not the end if the world if they don't take care of it. I would really just like to know. I don't want to keep instaling and removing mirrors for fear of damaging the wndsheld mount.

    Update on Rear View Mirror

Mine did not actually leak and a replacment was sent. Unfortunately, the replacement is defective and I have been waiting for another for over a month. They are very pleasant, and since it is free I'm not really in a position to push them too hard. I must admit that I'm beginning to feel...

How Many Speakers does the 97 Conti Have?

Actually, it could be either 6X8 or 6 1/2 in the front doors on the '97. Mine had 6X8's and I had to use adapters to make the 6 1/2" speakers fit properly. According to Crutchfield, it depends on the build date and whether the factory system is JBL or not.

    spark plug gap?

My '97 is .052 to .056. I would imagine the '95 is the same. You can double check yours by looking on the emissions decal under the hood. It is listed there.

    thermostat & coolant maintnance

It's been my experience that t-stats pretty much fail suddenly, with little warning. I'm not saying they never give you a warning, but I've never had one personally. Keep in mind that in 20 years I've only had 2 stats fail and one occurred about a week after I bought the car. Also, I...

    Update on Rear View Mirror

Just got a call from Magna Donnelly. They suspect that the mirror was damaged in shipping and are sending another one. I'll have to wait and see...

    Update on Rear View Mirror

I can turn the auto-dim on and off by holding the left button for more than 4 seconds. The right button gets the mirror into compass calibrate mode, but does not toggle the compass on and off. The map/courtesy lights do not work at all unless I turn the headlights on. Then the lights stay...

    Update on Rear View Mirror

Here's a few: Old: New: The biggest difference is the relocation of the compass display from the upper right corner of the mirror to a separate display panel below the mirror. The wedge mount is different, but will work.

    Update on Rear View Mirror

I got mine today, and it is substantially different from the original mirror. When I plug it in, it does not operate correctly. I have to turn te headlights on to get it to exit its own display test mode (all segments of the display are lit) and then the map lights are just on. They do not...

    Rear view mirror questions

Thanks for the reply. The recalibration helped. The mirros seems to work properly. The only thing left to figure out is why the compass and auto-dim LED don't turn off with the ignition. I know I'm going to forget to turn them off one day and I don't know how quickly the compass might...

    Rear view mirror questions

The liquid in my electrochromatic mirror (97 Continental) settled to the bottom and cause the mirror to be very dark. I have been looking for a reasonably priced used replacement with map lights and compass but have come up short. Since the car just failed inspection for the mirror I decided...
