1993 vs 1998

I've got 2 gen 1's and 2 gen 2's. They are all great cars and they are all different.:)

I still like the gen 1's styling better though.:D

Good call bill. I like the G1 style too but...
You have 2 of each which most of us don't have.
What years are they and what are the differences between them??
Out of the 4, one of them has to be your favorite. Would that be the G1 or G2?

These are the ones I have now:

98 White Pearlescent Collector's Edition Mark VIII
97 Opal Opalescent Mark VIII LSC
94 Deep Jewel Green Mark VIII
94 Black Mark VIII

I guess my favorite is the green gen 1, but each car has it's advantages. My gen 1's have 307 gears which I like better than my gen 2 LSC 327 gears (the 97 has 373's which is fun as hell, but I really can't compare that one here :))

For normal driving, I like the gen 1's steering ratio, throttle feel, fuel mileage (from the gears) and stock JBL stereo better than the gen 2's.
I also like the fact that the gen1's are simpler without all the gen 2 "features" that I usually turn off in the message center. I like the fact the gen 1's don't have a SCIL module.:)

I do like the feel of the gen 2 seats, although I think the gen 1 can be set lower which I like better.
I also do like the "rolling light show" parts of the gen 2's.

I own both a 97 and a 93 with the updated interior. Honestly, if you want a car that has all the features of a new car such as digital odometer and OBDII and plan on keeping your car stock get a Gen II easy. If you're not much into modding or customizing your car get the Gen II. But if you plan on keeping your car and personalizing it, it doesn't really matter which you pick. Go for which body style you like better. IMO if you look at keVIIIn's sig that Gen I has an aggressive look yet elegant and just looks more intimidating (minus the mudflaps no offence). The tail end also looks more like a hot rod in the Gen I and prefer it over the Gen II now. I plan on getting the seats redone later on for both cars so I doesn't matter which is better for me and plus I plan on getting Gen II door panels on my Gen I. Otherwise it looks the same except I have two ash trays in the back. The multi control for wipers is much better on the Gen II. I also have Gen II side mirror and plan to hook up the puddle lamps and led turn signals soon when I'm in the process of replacing the door panel. Gen I also have a light key ring on the outside of the door handle which looks nice. Driving wise the steering response is much better in the Gen I vs the Gen II because of the lower ratio. The steering feels more responsive and precise in the Gen I. Night time driving is the same in my LSC housing vs my Gen II. It has an identical layout on the ground. So again if you plan on modifying and customizing it all depends on which body style you like better. That's all I can think of for now. Also, I plan on removing the exterior antenna with an interior one so I don't have to worry about that. But honestly stock for stock the Gen II give a much better impression and much better feel. But a well taken care of Gen I looks better IMO. Here is my Gen I as of right now. Ride in a 93 Lincoln Mark VIII - YouTube
BTW Gen I also has wood trim but with a nice Lincoln logo but only enough room for one drink. Plus I have noticed better highway mileage out of the Gen I. Last time we drove together at 80 the Gen II got a 25MPG vs 27MPG in the Gen I. I also squeezed out 29 going 75 in the same trip different time. This is using a full tank of gas and dividing the miles it has done by the gallons I put in the next fill up so it's not computer error. Long response and hope that covers it. I love the gadgets like the power steering tilt/scope but rarely end up using it. Oh and the key hole in the Gen II is in a much nicer location, even though it gets scratched up, than the Gen I which is in a dated place.

I think that video header might be a little mixed up. Appears to be a Gen 2 you're in, not a 93. :)

It actually looks like a 95 or 96. ;)

Notice the Lincoln emblem on the Radio bezel and no dash ignition.

Well, he did say "93 with updated interior" so, maybe it is and the dash has been swapped out and the rear view mirror was replaced with one that has the digital readout. Yeah, I noticed the dash ignition wasn't there and honestly didn't think about the Lincoln emblem on the stereo bezel. It sounds good though. Kinda the sound I'm after when I do the exhaust. Looking like Spring, if I don't get it done by mid Fall.

The compass sensor in a Gen2 is that thing that hangs under the mirror

"93mkviii" video is my brother's car. It's a 93 Mark VIII with a 96 interior. The rear-view mirror is from a Cadillac Deville and NOT a Gen II Mark VIII. Gen II Marks don't have a compass read-out like it is shown in the video. It's not hard to switch them out, gotta mess with the pins but it will work. Ask my brother, he knows how to do it.

Anyways Gen II here all the way!!! The only reason I like my brother's Gen I is because it is unique. Fast like a 93, double din dash like later Gen I, LSC housing, and will have Gen II door panels, so it won't look cheap. Then a nice paint job should do it. Oh and I prefer Gen II exterior, so brainier for me.

i have a 93 and 96 first n last year for the gen 1.the 93 is the faster of the two and they did a episode on the speed channel and did say u can get more power from the 1st gens also no matter the year if its clean it will look newer my 93 is always thought to be at least a 99 or newer from people who dont know cars to those who do know them they will respect it if its clean cause of the age.and yes the lights r the tru diff, in the gen 1 n 2 but u can always buy hid kits to put in.to me the gen 2 is a grandpaw looking car but still a mark.like i read from someone else the gen 1 makes a better hot rod.also if u like chrome get a gen1,if u dont like it get the gen 2.

Man, that is one Bad Azz 93 with a double din. :D

Yup the credit goes to GMAN since it's his older car and he swapped out the dash. The rear view mirror does add a nice appeal inside the car. The mirror as Mark0101 said is not from a 98 Mark VIII. Just look for any Cadillac in the junk yard around the 1998-2006 range and it should have a digital read out compass with the auto/off buttons for dimming. There were a couple Sevilles and Devilles that were in the junk yard and it was easy pickings. I replaced it on both my Gen I and Gen II. However since the compass reading for the gen II is on the mirror, originally, the compass readout in the dash isn't correct. You might be able to get both of them to work but i'm not sure. Also, the plugin connection is easy to do for the swap. Oh I forgot to add in one other thing Gen I have Gen II don't. Two sun visors for each passenger in the front... oh yeah! And btw does anyone know if the controller for the wipers in the steering column is interchangeable between Gen I and Gen II?

The sound is nice but I personally am over it if I can't find a way to fix the drone. If I do find a way the sound for the exhaust is fantastic.

I did that exhaust back in April of 2007. It has a 2 in 2out catalytic converter and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on it. At the time I was concerned with increasing the flow and keeping the exaust as close to stock as possible. You could eliminate the third cat for a X pipe.

marks

img_1336.jpgnice ride gman but i would have showed the mustang that the mark is where ford put the power, i love running stangs its a toss up depending if they r moded or not but at the end of the day they cant figure out y they didnt just leave u.

ok,ok, i like what you did there,

using a lowly Cadillac part to show what you have left behind , lol

Lincoln power to pull ahead, Cadillac reflections of what got left in the dust...

:D
