1995 Indigo Lights/Black LSC Progress

The VIII has sat on the side burner the last few months because of some traveling, and my apprenticship classes I have to take. That has all passed now, so I stopped by the paint supply shop and picked up some supplies today after work.

This was a pretty sizeable dent that is viewable in past pics in this thread.

Its nice to be working on it again.

man i wish i had access to a lift like i used to. my godfather still has two of the electric cable lifts from his old shop, just have no garage to put it in. parents wont let me put it there
 
Moving along to the rear 1/4 panel. The bumps and dings are big enough to require a little filler but not enough to require "full on" body work. With the interior out, I can get to all the dings and push them out.
Rear window is getting pulled out for the repaint as well.


I should have the body ready to prime in a couple weeks.

Antenna hole is smoothed over. The Gen2 rear glass will take over for the original antenna. The Grey is simply SEM etching primer to keep it from flash rusting while I get the rest of the car ready for primer.

Always wear your welding mask when grinding?
 
I guess I don't understand why its note worthy.

Do you not wear safety glasses / a face shield when grinding?

I have had to deal with a dremel tool as they grind rusted metal out of my eye. So I wear safety glasses but not my welding masks. Even tho they go clear they don't go clear enough to see to the detail I need as the railings I make do not get covered with filler or bondo.
 
I had an electrician friend of mine bring some conduit over and we built some folding stands to hold parts while I work on them, which turned out pretty good if you ask me.


Hood is Ready for primer. I'm VERY happy with the factory paint condition. ( I don't need to do NEAR the prep work that I had on my last project.)

Some fantastic looking work! I would love to have the time to do allot of what your doing. I can see how much detail work is going in. Impressive indeed.

The southern region 3M rep gave my little brother that builds the bikes a speedglass. Sheeeoooot!! Some great great stuff!

So why another hood?
 
oh dang. As always, I don't know why though, I get you and sapper mixed up. I see why now you are doing the hood, thought it was you that did the hood with the cobra splice-in.

Underside of the hood, Passenger door, Front and Rear bumper covers and Side mouldings are ready for primer.


If I can keep this pace up, It'll be done in time to be towed to Carlisle.

Hey 94m5 got a question...how are you going about replacing the b pillar moulding (that black piece of trim that is glued to the vertical pillar of the door). I tried removing several of these on junkyard mark viiis with no luck everyone of them ended up bent or dinged somehow. I can't imagine Ford or anyone sells these new anymore..how did you find replacements?? Also what's up with the black rear bumper, was it replaced at some point? I had no idea there were so many dings on your car..this thing looked flawless with the exception of the small dent under the tail light..eitherway I can't wait to see your car painted and finished in that dark green..that's gonna look freakin amazing! Keep up the good work man!
 
There are 3 hidden rivets that need to be drilled out, and a piece of double sided tape that needs to be seperated.

Most of the dings are superficial, and were able to be blocked out and use no filler. The bigger ones were massaged out from the back side of the panels before I put the glaze on.

I'm looking forward to trying the new primer I gonna go with. It has a fraction of the shrinkage that a normal primer has so the paint will remain flawless after a few years. I'm just not looking forward to sanding it cause it wears like iron.

The black bumper was bought from a member in KC for this project. The ding over the rear bumper included some damage to the upper edge of the bumper cover.

I hate. Hate. Hate working with urethane so we just bought a better piece.
