This is the result of changing my oil on my second Mark VIII, which did not have a remote filtration system until today:

Filter was a B*TCH to get off. At least it was a Napa Gold, meaning the previous owner at least tried to take care of it.

Here are the Genuine and Official Ford Motorcraft Lincoln Mark VIII Oil Filter Removal Tools I used to get off the oil filter when I discovered the filter was too hard to remove by hand, and a filter wrench could not fit.

Now remember folks, this is a Mark VIII Oil Filter Removal tool set made by Ford! I did not put this together!

:D

For some reason, this car's oil gallies seem to be more caverous. It took 2 more quarts than my other Mark VII using the EXACT same remote filter kit and oil cooler. I mean, even the hoses I cut to exact spec. I always knew there were variations in the capacities of Mark VIIIs though. She runs a lot better now on the German Castrol 5w-20.

why couldnt you get the removal ool on the filter?

its not that hard,or is there sometihng i am missing ,was the filter seized?

those tools are nice... :shifty:

the remote filter does sound nice though, does that setup casue any delay in oil being distrubuted at startup with the extra distance it has to travel?

Gave it a shot, and it didn't work. Wasn't really room to maneuver the darn thing either. This is only the second time I have done a mark VIII's oil filter. I put a relocation kit immediately on my other car, and that flter I removed by hand, so I had no idea if I was making any headway at all.

Nope. The whole system stays full of oil, so it's like having a really big oil filter. When the pump begins to pump, the oil just moves along like usual.

Having 13.5 quarts of oil in the system means that oil changes last a looooooooooong time as well. My other car passes its oil examinations until well after 9000 miles, and even then, I change it pre-emptively before contamination gets to a level to where it becomes "advisable" to change the oil.

So it's a lot easier to do, and I have to do it a lot less, and it keeps my engine oil cleaner and cooler.

I've never seen a remote filter system...

All I know is if you use the Wal-Mart filter made by purlator (spelled wrong) it come out easier as it's a bit shorter.

I usually use a high end filter like Napa Gold then get pissed at it while trying to get it out. For some reason it just doesn't seem to come out the easy way all the time.

I've never had to booger my filter to get it off. The removal tool usually works with a filter that tightens up. I never use the tool to tighten the filter.

Oh well at least you got the damn thing off..

Sometimes you have to wonder why.. with filter placements... You'd think the engineers would think that hey you know that filter has to be replaced often...

But then again the engineers probably take their cars to Jiffy Lube.

13.5 qts. ? Is this with a 4.6 dohc ? Something doesn't sound right unless you relocated filter to the trunk.

With big -10 AN lines and huge FL-1A filter my setup takes 6-3/4 qts.

My engine took 7 quarts in the first place, it has dual full flow oil filters that are longer than ph8 size, a bypass oil filter, and 2 very large oil coolers. The oil coolers alone hold almost 2 quarts a piece, but have no noitcable pressure loss. May sound extreme now, but wait until you see when both cars are done. It will be necessary. Well, not necessary, but it will keep the engine very happy. :)

last week when I got my oil changed , my son didn't understand why I was watching the guy doing the work. He spent 15 mins trying to get it off before he asked a coworker to help him ..... and the car was on a lift. I want make sure he didn't give up and just wipe it clean .

Hah! I had the same thing happen last week. I couldn't really tell what they were saying from across the garage but I numerous mentions of Ford along with a lot of cusswords.

The best was when I took it to a Ford dealership. The mechanic walked out into the garage, saw my Mark sitting in the oil change bay, and said "Ahhhh, F**K."

I just thought "Well that's good, he's definitely familiar with Marks." :)

the shop we go to always gives our mark to the "newest guy" there. i always take it to get the oil changed when i have a bad day, so that they can humor me :D. mine only takes 8 Quarts. 13 sounds like alot!

ah, I have a 95 lsc bone stock and im bout to due a oil change my first, I bought 6 quarts of castrol syntec and Im about to buy a filter so due I need more then 6 quarts? The manual says 6 but im seeing 8, 10, 13 lol.

I never have a problem changing my oil. Just have to get the filter at the right angle to get it past the p/s lines.

6 quarts is enough, some take a little more if they have a lot of carbon buildup in the heads. I know because my 98 did for sure, when I first bought it I swear it took 7 quarts. Ran a half quart of Marvel Mystery oil for 3000 miles and next oil change the car magically only took 6 quarts...

Sounds liek Im set then. At first I was like im gonna drain it then fill it with new oil, then I got thinking I really dont know the true history of my oil, before I bought the car from my friend he sent it to a local shop and they just gave it a all around expection new oil, coolant, etc. But hearing how much of a bitch this filter is for some ppl prob tells me they just shined up the filter and said it was new, wouldent doubt it for sec. Also I got the castrol Syntec and I believe the oil that is in there now is non synthectic so I think that gives me another reason to change filter so my cars runing pure synthetic oil with a fresh filter. I wanted to get Mobil 1 but they only had 5 qt juggs and no single 1 qt, then I was gonna get penz oil platnium, I was at walmart and theres a sams club right next to it so I knew they sold by the case, so I ended up buying a 6 pack of syntec for like 22 bucks, so I think I did good. How is the Castrol syntec compared to Mobil 1 and the new platnium from penz oil?

I would say it's probably more important to change the filter than it is to change the oil....

It's a waste of time to change your oil and leave a dirty filter.

Yeah thats true, But like has anyone ever cut a filter open and c what it collects liek whats in there, what things in the oil need to be filtered out?

for starters, carbon, sometimes sand, metal filings... I'm sure the list goes on.

Coo, If im bored ill disect mine, lol. And I hear mix anwers, some say to slowly introduce synthetic oil and others say it doesent matter just convert to synthetic.

I guess I'm lucky. (MAybe small hands) I put mine on hand tight and take it off with my hand and just snake it around the lines it almost falls out. :D :D
