Hey guys,
I have searched around a little bit and havent found exactly what I am looking for on the topic. I had a spare HID bulb that I think I have sold for $250, however now I am afraid that since I sold my spare that I'll probably have a bulb go out. What do you need to adapt say an ebay HID kit to fit properly (depth and seal) into a stock 96 LSC housing.

Thanks a lot guys
-Dan

I have a '98, but the '96 HID uses the same Sylvania 9500 bulb, correct?

If so, then what I did should work. Details HERE. A pair of Delrin adapters is $55 shipped.

dont buy an ebay kit. If you want a cost effective kit go with DDMtuning.com they have a lifetime warranty, great customer service, and cheap replacement bulbs and ballasts.

Nice!

FWIW, If I were to do it again, I'd use 9006 bulbs instead of the 9005's, as the 9006 will fit the stock housing better. I'll probably change over to the 9006 bulbs someday.

Do they still require the adaptor, or will the sit in tight enough? I am wanting to do this conversion in the near future before either bulb goes out.

You'll still need the adapter, there just won't be as much slop where the bulb sits in the stock housing.

Hey DLF, how much for the rings? I like the stock HIDs so if I can get an identical color and output bulb with your rings I would have 4 good stock HIDs to sell which should more then pay for the conversion. :D

Hey what do ya know! Reading FTMFW!!!!

Damn, $55 for the adapters and $50 for the lights. Not bad. Should be able to get $400-$500 for all four of my stock ones.
With that DDM kit I assume the mod needs to be done for keeping the car from giving the error message?

No mods other than hooking the wires up... I was so happy to be able to add better HID's that fire off quickly, cost $30 to replace, and are common as hell...

I don't get any error messages....

I wired the new ballasts into the existing harness plugs for the OEM ballasts.

Hid

I'd sign a petition to get HID lamps outlawed. I am sick and tired of approaching those damn things and getting blinded. They are a danger to all other drivers. If I ever met the designer of those in a dark alley....

Lol... wow chill out...

The Mark VIII uses housings that were designed for HIDS...

And gen 1 halogen housings are so crappy that even with an HID kit, they don't even come close to blinding anyone. (assuming reasonable color temperature, diffusers left in and housings correctly aimed)

I thoroughly tested my lights for safety - they are not blinding, at all.

can a 95 be fitted with HIDs and will the neon trunk from 97-98 fit on a 95 ?

Yes you can put HIDs in, no you can't put in a gen 2 tail... the best you could do is maybe LED the gen 1 tail out... otherwise it would be a fil metal swapping proposition...

yes and no. as far as them blinding people, thats only if you are a jackass and aim the headlights into the trees. i have converted abouth 12 first gen mark VIII's to HID and never even got a high beam flash from an oncoming car ever. if you aim them correctly you have no problems. the ones that blind you are the dickheads with the 12,000k or brighter kits that would blind stevie wonder.
