Looking to purchase first Lincoln

Mannn, I thought it was pretty sweet, hahahah...

This has the same shifting as the 2000 I drove a few days ago..

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ctd/2337919240.html

It says it's automatic, but as the picture shows, it has D5 D4 3 2 1. I suppose it's not sport, and that I can throw it in D5 and roll out, right?

It seems that you still have some confusion here. On the sport ones (with SST) you can also "throw it in D5 and roll out." I almost never use the SST function.

I understand that about the Sport packages. I asked about one that didn't seem to be have the Sport package - like the one I posted.

Okay. The point being that either one can operate in a normal full automatic way. The first gen V6 (2000-2002) was also sold with a five speed manual. That's the only one you would have to stay away from if you want auto.

You need to expand your search a bit to get a good deal.

Yea, I've started looking in Chicago and Indiana.

Im going to look deeper in Detroit. It's on the other side of the state, but I'm sure I could find a great deal over there.

See there you go.

03 and up is ideal.

Now dont jump the gun right away...try to get one with the woodgrain unless you dont care about it.

Unless you want a 2002 LSE. If my LS wasn't an "E" I wouldn't have even thought twice about it. But I'll still have to respectfully agree with Black, the Gen2 really is the way to go. And even better the 04 has the smaller problems fixed that the 03 had when they updated the entire vehicle.

Someone who doesn't take care of the leather probably doesn't take care of much else, IMHO. Those seats were available in very limited numbers for one model year only so would be difficult to replace.

That is the '02 I mentioned earlier. It has the sport suspension with chrome on the bumpers and non-SST shifter.

Keep looking and BE PATIENT!

I'm gonna take a wild guess that 00-02 is Gen 1 and 03-06 is Gen 2.

Yea, a buddy of mine has an 04 and he LOVESSSSSSSSSSSS it! I've been in it. It doesn't have the woodgrain or anything, so it's plain to me, but it's still a nice car (on the outside, hahahaha).

I don't know if I could afford an 04. And if I found one in my budget I'm sure it'll be messed up and need a bunch of work... But who knows!

Maybe I could get a plain one like my buddy's and get the woodgrain from CarID or something?

Found these right quick:

Thoughts?

That is correct. There were no V6s in 2006.

Try here.

Oh yea. Pay for a Carfax. It's WELL worth the money and could save you thousands in the future.

While i prefer the gen II any ls is better than no ls.

And you can always mod the exterior to make it look like a gen II. Cant change the interior though. One thing i like that the gen I has over the II is the old school throttle.

I hate drive by wire.

And you can get a woodgrain trim kit but its plastic and doesnt look as good as the oem wood. I actually added parts from a trim kit to mine but did it in a tasteful manner and it looks really good.

Bart's car store in Ft. Wayne had a black gen 1 LSE for sale about 2 weeks ago. I think they wanted around $7000 for it.

Do you have any pics of your interior somewhere online? I'd like to see how it turned out. And where did you get your trim? What are your thoughts on the few I posted?

Barts car store sold me my LS. They do not do any work to the cars but throw some fluids in it and say they did a full service to the vehicle. My LS turned out to be a POS till I fixed many things. I will never buy a car from them again.

WOOOOWWWW!!! what happened?

WOOOOWWWW!!! what happened?

They told me they did a full service. From the picture on the website, the car was close to the sales building. When I got there to test drive the car, they brought the car up to the door. It was approximately 20 feet away. This was later found to hide the timing chain tensioner problem. I test drove the car and was told that a full inspection from a BBB accredited shop had cleared the car of any problems. When I drove the car, I noticed the brake pedal felt like it was crunching. the salesman said he has dealt with these cars and until the rust on the rotors is gone, that this car will do that. I did ask the salesman about the common oil leak problem for the valve cover gaskets. He insisted the car was fully inspected for the common problems for the year. I did not know any shops out that way, so I took the dealership's word for it that the car was fine. I bought the car and on the way home I noticed the brakes still had the crunching sound even after driving an hour and a half. I let the car sit for about four hours and started it back up. A knocking noise upon startup is now heard that still pi$$es me off to this day. It still is the timing chain tensioners. They only knock from a cold startup (only involving my car). A short time later, the master cylinder gave way because of broken down brake fluid. All the brake pads were shot and had to be replaced as well as the brake fluid completely bled. I turned on the air conditioning and noticed a musty smell that I did not notice during the test drive. I do remember smelling febreeze or some sort of air freshener when test driving the car. Turned out to be the AC filter had never been changed in 72000 miles, but the computer had been reset to show that it had been. The oil was bad when I got the car. Seemed to me that they reset the computer to show the oil was new. The air filter was absolutely disgusting but seemed to have been changed 50,000 miles before that. None of the seat filters were changed out, so the ventilations system in the seats sucked at first. After changing them out (PITA), They now breath fine. When I called the owner of the dealership directly, he told me that he didn't make any money on this car. He did offer me 500 bucks to fix the tensioners. I wanted to go tell him to go F!ch himself but I held back. I took the money. A few days later my transmission module went out. No warning, just a loss of fourth gear and extremely delayed shifting. I fixed that for 300 for new solenoid and transmission fluid. Did the work myself. A week later my check engine light came on. Ran code. Bad thermostat and broken plastic housing. 120 for that. All of those problems were with less than 1,000 miles put on the car from buying it. A few months later I noticed that oil was leaking from near the oil pan. It was so little leaking that I did not think anything of it until one day I had lost nearly a quart of oil. I got underneath the car to find that some jacka$$ had used high temp rtv sealant to fix a severly dented lower oil pan. 180 for that. A few months later, I had developed a miss. I thought it was a coil. Turned out to be coils and bad valve cover gaskets. Bought and installed new valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and coils. I eventually took out the new coils because I found that the Motorcrafts were under warranty for up to 10 years, 100,000 miles. So, in a nutshell, don't buy anything from Bart's Car Store.

Motorcraft 10yr 100k warranty? I think they only warranty for 1 yr 12k miles as I just had all my coils replaced with Motorcraft coils and factory plugs.

The LS is an expensive car to maintain simple as that. Do your research and be patient so you don't have any stories like this guy ^

man... I see! lol.. Once you get passed the initial issues of the gaskets, coils, etc, are they pretty reliable?
