My new custom enclosure.

then wouldn't half way up mean that it is mounted horizontally?

Now you see why I was so confused. I have no idea which way the amp is pointed...

It's starting to open up now :D

But I know it's not totally broken in yet. I've been taking it rather easy, until the box gets carpeted.

So I started creating a faceplate for my enclosure this past weekend. I am going to create a template (hopefully pdf) for those who are interested in making one. I still need to cut out the holes and glue the carpet in place, but it seems to fit nicely.

Just in case they do not vent a box for 2 12's, is it possible to vent it myself by just drilling? If so where would be the best place to do so. I have a vented box right now but the air is redirected throught the back of the box, comes around and exits between both subs. This box is great just that its a monster size.

Is it possible? Yes. But you will lose precious volume when you add port (those boxes only allow what, 1 cube gross per sub?) And you have to add the proper length to tune it right.

Yeah they are .94 cub ft. My sub specs ask for .57 to 1 fr sealed and .75 to 2 for ported. I have about a 1.5 ported. I'm sure my subs won't sound as well in this enclosure but I need the space.

Just looked at the ebay ad. Each sub has it's own chamber. That I think would be pretty tough to even find a place to port. I would just build my own box. The enclosure is VERY important to how your sub will sound.

air space is crucial to how a sub will preform. i dont think these boxes would port very well (two subs of course) if you really need the space, go with a sealed boxes. or just get one good sub and build a ported box for it.

Funny how these boxes just went down in price from 135 to 110 since the beginning of this thread. I will most likely purchase tomorrow if their still at 110. Just need to decide if i want to go down to 10's.

Ok so this thread has inspired me quite a bit. I grabbed some mdf and made the front of the box, similar to what is posted here. next I made the box (12"h X 12' d X 32" w) to attach behind it (sealed). I plan on putting two 10's in there and taking the 6x9's out to allow the air to move freely into the car. the question I have is will I get better results having the subs facing the taillights like many have posted so far, or facing upward toward the 6x9 openings? In theory it, having the subs facing upward makes sense, but I was curious because everyone has them facing out.

Still worth it at that price just because it saves on trunk space and lets you get to the battery.

And you are down to not very much volume. Can't remember the specs off hand, but I don't remember them having the construction/volume requirements to fit any type of big boy sub.

Guys, I am not much of am expert on car audio. I do like the look and fit of this custom box, and the fact that it leaves the trunk usable.
I would like to hear everyone's opinion on whether this enclosure would be sufficient for a single 10 or 12" sub. I am NOT looking for maximum decibels here..just clear, accurate bass in a good looking setup.

What woofer? What is the airspace before displacement when running a single setup? I haven't taken a look in a while.

About 10 years ago I had a set of all aluminum Sony Explode's in my Monte Carlo SS. I still have the aluminum cone sub laying around. I listen to mostly rock music (the Ramones are my all-time fav) I really liked the tight, accurate sound of that sub with my rear-deck 6x9's run through a tri-way amp. I believe its a 1400w peak, maybe 800 rms..I'd have to check in storage to be sure. But I could get a decent amp and my old sub in this box and probably be happy with it.

..just looking for some more educated opinions, which I really do appreciate!!

I'd check mounting depth as well. I don't remember those prefab boxes being very deep enclosures. You should also check your woofer specs to make sure that the recommended volume is reached. Most 12's I've seen have a recommended 1 ft^3 sealed per driver after displacement.

Some quick info on the ebay box. I had sad previously it was 1.6-1.7 but after a closer more accurte measurement it is 1.57. I have measured in many diff ways and that's the most I could calculate out of it. The initial 1.6 to 1.7 came fcrom the company itself. It is a good loking box and would work great for a single 12, but after displacement would give you about 1.4.. cuft.

If your trying to run sealed this is more than required for most 12 in subs. If your going ported, most of the higher wattage 12's require 1.5 after displacment. To me that actually seams small, big boy subs will be better off closer to 2 cuft. Note that some of the measurements given for the space the sub reqires are usually minimum required not optimal.

If your not looking at running too much wattage then this box will work well but remmember that the box is made out of 3\4 mdf except for the back and front which is made out of 1\2. If you plan on putting a 60+ pound sub on 1\2 mdf, I would try to reinforce in some way. This would be a great for many subs though.

I'd check mounting depth as well. I don't remember those prefab boxes being very deep enclosures.

Depth at bottom is 12.5" and 6.5" on top

I measured from center of sub opening to back of box and its about 9 1\2"

My single sub is sitting in 2.25 ft^3 right now. And it wants a bigger amp. Been looking for an AQ2200d for a good price.
