My Review on 1st Gen VS 2nd

I only use the rain x washer fluid. Applies a small amount of rain x when you use it. If it starts to rain I just run it a little and it works like a charm. I had similar streakyness with the normal rain x product so I moved to this stuff

+1... same as i do... Its actually the Deicer/ rain x combo...

But I'll look into that Pek

Well, it is a Lincoln LS forum...

A Lincoln LS is absolutely positively the greatest car in the world! Haha

Well i understand its a LS forum and its gonna be all about the LS, but some act as though the LS is the best auto since the model T. Perhaps for most on here the LS is the nicest/newest/fastest car they have ever owned. Its all a matter of opinion, but you gotta admit some hype up their LS a little too much. Its an aged car. An aged car that once had its day, but 2012 has blown by the LS. I still like the looks of the LS, but beyond that it goes down hill. Perhaps the Paris Hilton of cars :) Just kidding.

You'd feel differently if you lived in one of the congested cities with lots of bicycle traffic. Parallel park and then come back to find your driver's mirror hanging from the wiring. It's a big convenience to have them auto fold up and auto fold out if you have to fold them every time you park.
I don't see the point is complaining that a feature shouldn't exist just because you don't have it and don't need it.

I get the city living thing and folding mirrors, but for an auto maker to have that be a feature of their commercial making it a focal point is odd. Now if those commercials were market specific i'd understand. But living in Florida a folding mirror is kinda nonsense and when i had a 2012 Explorer Limited for awhile i actually found the auto-fold mirrors kinda annoying.

A power fold mirror is (or was) a high end feature and this is on a low end car. I can see using it as a marketing feature. I can see pointing out the thing(s) that you don't expect it to have, as opposed to the things you expect it to have. (Few, if any, advertise that their cars have power windows now that power windows are standard on almost all cars.)

What it is to some of us is how some squirrel in one of those new cars try to run up on us on the highway only to find out they can only rip on an LS from a stoplight and its way different when we are rolling already. I had a G8 GT try that on me a couple months ago. His problem was he let me hear him. Now he may have had a shot if we were side by side. He had no chance that day.

Also have to remember that most people with these new cars don't have the stones to push the envelope. We do because we're enthusiasts and know more about our cars than they wanna know about their's.

Yeah I know that one too. I wasn't sure though what it would set the seat AC too so I don't use it. I keep the seat AC on max at all times because I run really hot. Close friends/family call me the bear (or polar bear) from back when I would snowboard with only a hoodie (I'm also a very broad person. 20% wider shoulders than anyone I've met which contributes to the nickname)

Proof lol: Here's me helping my little bro build his first computer

this would be a good addition to the LS OWNERS thread

I used to use rain-x. Made the windshield "streaky" when I used the wipers.

Now I claybar the glass, use a chemical cleaner like Duragloss 501 with my PC, then use a paint sealant. Others opt for Aquapel, and have had great results.

Just FYI.

I clay-barred all my windows the last time I did my car then applied the Rain-X. I've noticed streaks before but haven't had a problem recently. Going to checkout the aquapel. Thanks pek!

Edit: I like how this turned from comparison to auto wipers to glass cleaning/sealing products. Quite the progression.

*Didn't cheap out, and the suspension underneath looks like my 02. Just feels softer, which someone here just pointed out is liekly the shocks. This 05 came with 17" rims and select shift, isn't that the sport model?

*Didn't cheap out again, foolish comment. Auto wiper = Rain sensing. On the knob it says "Auto" on my 02. And as someone else pointed out, they disappeared after 04. FAIL

*Guys like me wear suits too and design your custom high end kitchens. Fail.
I don't give a crap who or what Lincoln does for whom or whatever, I upgrade what i think needs upgrading, and simply pointed out the lack luster space in the doors.

*E brake is motorized yes but i prefer the lever.

*Cheap out? on a used car that goes the same rate as others? try lack of knowledge when i purchased it. I couldn't exactly ORDER them on this used vehicle now could I have? Derp

Most of this is all dependent on the model, and a lot of what you dont like is common in most mid-level and higher luxury cars. The LS is an extry level luxury car, not a mustang.

And his '05 V8 has less hp than base model V6's?? When a Hyundai or some car like that comes with more hp than the LS thats when its time to try to not brag about the LS anymore. The handling is another issue. The LS does have great handling. I am biased, i have moved on, but because of that i see that the LS is way behind in these times. Aside from cooled seats there isnt much more luxury that an LS has than a regular Buick does, or Chevy, or Nissan. I had a Nissan Maxima rental when i totaled my LS for a few days and that car...with a base V6 would smoke your LS's. Was shocked how fast that thing moved. Sure, in '06 the LS had its bragging rights. In 2012....those are gone. I still like the looks, being different, very Beamerish, but the rest of the car is dated. Sorry.

A lot of the guys who get rid of their LS into something newer seem to always come back on here and talk about how great and how much better their car is compared to it.

Yes we get it. Not trying to single you out as im sure the car is badass. But so are many other cars that are newer. The original LS design is at least 13 years old now. Very hard to compare it to something much newer.

The LS is aged of course but still a very nice car and the suspension is still very hard to beat. We love the car. Many of us have driven newer and can get something newer but its nice to have a not so common car and the best Lincoln made in my opinion.

I have looked at many cars and would take a 5 series over mine anyday but i think i would still keep it as its my first car i financed on my own.

Has anyone mentioned yet that the softer suspension on a 2005 might be because he has the softer dampeners, and maybe he has the Euros on his 2002?

The European shocks were never sold on a stock USA LS. They were available only as a replacement shock; and not for very long.

Ah, well I know there are two that were sold on the US LS stock. If memory serves there are the normal shocks, sports shocks and euro shocks. Maybe its the difference between the normal and the sports? It doesnt make much sense otherwise, unless something is just straight up broke of course lol

The only reason the euro shocks were available in the US is the LS was destined for Europe. Once the decision was made to not export to Europe (couldn't compete with the S-Type, after all.....) we were able to purchase the unused stock. That stock didn't last long.

Some of what you say may be true. But, as aged as the LS is, it will outhandle your MKS without a lean. And, that's a fact.
That's 13 year old technology still kicking a55 today, that's why people don't ignore the truth and you see the hype that you see.

Here Here!!!!!! Well said friend.

If your knowledgeable, you would know the LS suspension TO DATE is ridiculously good, and like you said BlackLs06, HARD TO BEAT.
Engine power isn't everything but its important. The 3.9L surely isn't a Joke. I quite think the LS stacks up INCREDIBLY well to newer $30k Cars today.

A friend of mine got a TL 2012. I looked through it. To be honest, im not impressed at all. So I want to compare these two (LS and TL), because the TL base is 33 thousand dollars of 2012 money and I want to see how one spending 33 K on a TL is an improvement from the Second Gen LSV8 Base.
So my LS compared to my buddy's Acura TL.

Engine power
TL 3.5L V6 280HP @ 254 lb-ft toque
LS 3.9L V8 280HP @ 286 lb-ft toque LS wins

Both have 17 inch rims, Perforated leather seats, lights on the side rear view mirrors.

Now heres what catches my eye. The followings a list of features my 05 LS has that his 2012 Acura TL does not:

motorized pedals, Wiper heaters, (Apparently some models have rain senor from 04), Air conditioned seats, Auto dark mirror and compass, Dual climate control, Passenger 6 way motorized seat, Sunroof, Motorized lumbar, Adjustable center console, Adjustable visor mirror light, secondary pull down visor, Motorized tilt and telescopic steering.

Now that's a Decent amount of luxury to have over a 2012 Model. Not to mention the Acura is FWD and i looked at his suspension, and spoke to several mechanics, who all said the LS is superior in suspension to the TL.

That being said, im not convinced the LS is BADLY outdated, but rather i am convinced its the "new car smell and feel" people get when trading in their LS for a Hyundai that makes them think this way.

On paper, its all in your head. The new car excitement makes anyone feel like their the king of the world.

But take a Nissan Altima 3.5 ($$31 thousand base) and Run a LS on the highway, and watch how bad you'll get smoked.

Or run a LS around some corners in your Base 3.5 Accord and get wrecked coming out of the corner.

Enjoy your lackluster luxury in your Camry whilst the rest of us turn the Seat AC on in that hot summer day.

Outdated against non luxury models? Hells no. Against a 5 series Beamer, obviously.

If you think you can get ALL those features, including a better suspension and that engine power, with AC seats and all those bells and whistles i listed for $30K or less, then your out to lunch.

My two cents on that.

I am really into WWII fighters and have watched countless films on the subject. Some of the things I have learned...

Don't try and turn with a Zero
Don't try and climb with a BF 109 (unless you are in a P-38J or better)
Don't try and dive with a P-47 (unless you are in a rock)

Some cars are specialized. I would race almost anything in the twisties and have a decent chance against most new Asian sports sedans. That was one of the LS's selling points when they were actually trying to sell them.

I look at it this way. My LS is an F-14 in a world of F-15s. I might get beat down low or up high. When its time to make those transitions, I will kick serious butt.

I just did a 250 mile trip in the MKS, it might not be an "LS" but it handles very well and in sport mode it will move. Dont knock it until you've tried it. And the 2013 MKS will exceed the LS in every way imaginable. Sorry

Oh not to mention the mpg far exceeded the LS. Never could make this trip in the LS on one tankful. Not only did i get waaay better mileage i filled up with regular gas saving even more. So ya'll can keep your "twisties" superiority.

Why do you keep on? Its a much newer car with lower miles its supposed to.

I bet a brand new LS drove amazingly when it first came out, and way better than most other cars at the time. Still drives very well and most of us don't give a damn about the MPG we didn't buy it to save on fuel costs.

If you want to compare your MKS to a current DEW 98 platform car, the XF is superior to the MKS in every way sorry. Even the ecoboost can't hang with the XFR.

You didn't buy a 5 series bimmer, you bought a rebadged Taurus. You dont need to gloat so damn much its getting old.

What you average for mpg? Let me guess - less than 25.

Fun little fact, you can spend less money on XF supercharged, that's 470hp and it will get the same gas mileage as your 2013 MKS.
Where is that leave your car, when it was built to maximize every drop of gas?

It would be an embarrassment to compare the a MKS to a Jaguar, so i won't even say how much better it is in every way.

Try this little trick. Come up on a healthy LS at about 50 mph and see if 700 lbs more weight can be pushed to 100+ mph quicker with 85 hp extra.

Why does this have to be a contest? There is no single best car for everyone. Each of us will try to pick the car that is the best compromise for us at the time. For me, the two fully paid off LSes that I have are the right cars for me right now. Later when something happens and I can't get parts or I feel its not worth the money to fix one or both, I will move on to something else (probably Jaguar or BMW).

Until then, I will enjoy the LS, and you will enjoy the MKS until something that is better for you comes along.
