Street Racing the LS

Hmmm. Guess i should just do a filter change and fluid flush and see what happens?

Yep, you will be fine.
I racked 125,000 miles on mine without any transmission issues. Had a filter and fluid changed close to 100,000. After about a few days of driving, i started feeling the difference in the liveliness of the transmission.

I would bring it to Ford and ask for full flush, which includes draining the converter as well. Should be about $200, maybe even less.

Sigh, so how come my lincoln dealership just keeps telling me it never needs to be done?

A lot of this transmissions are sealed for life. As Joe pointed out, they are good for 150,000 miles, according to the book.
Call up another dealer, doesn't necessarily have to be Lincoln, Ford can do a fluid exchange too.

Gotchya thanks

While I agree with everyone that the average production car has gotten much faster making the LS more average for fast, I always have done well against all kinds of what most would consider faster, cars. Mine is a little quicker than most LSes thou.

Early 5.7hemi 300c/magnum/chargers were only 340hp and weigh well over 4000lbs. I've ran well against them.

I'm very happy with my trans shifting with my tune.

Which ones? I have never heard of a sealed for life transmission. The only reason the LS doesn't have a dip stick is there wasn't room for one when installing the drivetrain from the bottom.

I asked the trans service interval when I was at a Ford dealer a while back and was told that there wasn't one for my car.

Doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.

My brother had the dealer tell him the same thing with his 06 Explorer V-8. He had to make them do it.

There is one, it's in the maintenance guide. Page 41 says to change the fluid at 150K miles :confused:. I do mine about every 50K.

Does anyone feel like their LS is kinda quick?

Last night coming home from Orlando, I got into a little race on 528.
It was a red, older late 80's era C4 Corvette, with killer looking staggered wheels, and what looked like a nice aftermarker exhaust.
Two guys in this Corvette kept looking over and gunning it. Then my girlfriend told me I had to race them, challenge accepted!
We started at about 60 and went to 100, the LS slowly pulled away, the driver was thrashing on the C4 and you could hear it screaming.
After we slowed down to 60-ish, he wanted to know what I had in my car. I didnt say anything.. kept on going. I'm assuming maybe he did'nt know how to drive the Corvette.

What have you raced and beat? Just wondering if any other LS owners have been suprised with the outcome of a race and their car.

I've said it before. I'll say it again. Relatively speaking, the LS is not slow. Many say it is not fast. Compared to what? No, the LS is not a stoplight racer. Many newer cars will take an LS from the light. Well, that makes since considering most of the new cars today have more gear ratios, fatter tires, and shorter rearend ratios. From 60 mph, the LS is very quick. At less than 3800 lbs, it is a light weight compared to the current crop of performance sedans. From 60MPH, I will take on a 4200lb Charger with my 3700lb LS.

BMW did that for a while. They did say there was no service interval and the transmission was "sealed for life." There was room for a dip stick, they just didn't put one. (Now, they don't put engine oil dipsticks either.) The real reason everyone is eliminating the transmission dip stick is that a study was done and it found that the biggest problem for automatic transmissions was "service induced failure." The thought was to make it harder for places like Iffy Lube to put the wrong fluid in the transmission, and for owners to overfill the transmission because they didn't understand how to read the stick.

Anyway, back to BMW. After saying for years there was no service interval on the autos, they now say to exchange the fluid every 100K miles.

I used to street scrap alot with this car. I remember All my victories. And all the pissed of drivers pouting..

My kills with my 2002 with upgrades:
-2008 Acura TL-S
-2008 Altima 3.5 SE
-2009 Infinity G37 XS (narrowly)
-2010 Mitsubishi Evo X
-2010 Subaru WRX STI (Narrowly)
-2009 Dodge Charger 3.5 (Several times, same guy)
-2002 Mustang GT
-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
-2005 Lincoln LS V8
-2000 Lincoln LS V8 (I was stock here, Stock VS Stock. I won)
-2004 Mustang V6

What Kicked my Ass:
- Porsche 911 Turbo
- BMW 550
- Pontiac G8 GXP (I wasn't tuned here. Just exhaust, he won by 3 cars)

Man, those look like all reasonable scores. Very respectable street cred there. Anyone would be proud of that record.

No its not slow but its not fast either. It launches horribly, and the transmission gets confused and shifts slowly compared to other cars. Engine wise the power is there, but getting the power to the back wheels is the problem.

This is entirely subjective. My 02 is snappy and quick, with the Tune and cable accelerator. My 2005 is sloppy and delayed, not tuned and electronic pedal. Yes it stock vs stock the second gen has more HP. But my 2002 will snap instantly into next gear. Its ridiculous how responsive my Tranny is with a tune. I think tunes makes a HUGE difference in these Cars, BlackLS06.

Im not sure how snappy and quick the Second Gens becomes if you tune them. I just know, my second Gen is nowhere near my first gen.

Source:
Own both Gens. Re ran the 2002 against the 2005 now several times. Each time, my 2002 curb stomps the stock 05

You can put a car up against the LS in a 0-60 and the LS will be beaten. The same car might lose to the LS, run from 60-130. That's because once underway, any traction advantage might go away.

LoL if you killed an evo X then they werent trying. I could beat any LS or slightly modded LS in my Evo X without trying even when my evo was stock. Even my 91 galant Vr4 outruns and out handles the LS..

I also remember my good friend 6-speed TL-S being considerably faster than the LS.

Is your LS boosted or running nitrous?

I love my LS but by my standards it's a slow car, hell the older Cadillac Escalade could outrun our LS's. It's a nimble luxury car and I like the quirkyness of it but it is by no means fast or even quick. I guess I could understand if the LS is the fastest car you've ever owned you would consider it fast or maybe if it was your first v8.

I dont see it but, it IS opinion.

I'm with you on this guy being full it when he says that he beat and EVO, STI and G37 lol but hes been preaching those stories for so long I just ignore it.

However the LS is no pansy as you're making it sound. Don't know what was wrong with your LS but no "older cadillac escalade" can keep up with my LS.

Maybe you should sell your LS and stay on your other car forums if you have such a low opinion of the LS's performance.

An older cadillac escalade would be neck and neck with a first gen V6.
Mlara1129, maybe he owns a first gen V6? :shifty:

Gee I dont have a lowly opinion of the LS performance, I think it could be quicker but it's still well balanced and does what it's supposed to very well in my opinion. I've had my LS for almost 5 years and it's been very reliable for the most part (145k), even when I was in Afghanistan and my wife went 12k miles without an oil change there was no hiccup in the cars reliability. I did get home and do an oil change right away and did the COPS and a plugs too lol. So maybe I shouldnt stay on my other car forums! unless you're going to ban me from this one  I dont see the problem with my previous post but I dont think I said anything warrenting what you just suggested. But, whatever atleast I agreed with half your post.

Also, there was an youtube vid of an escalade beating a v8 LS, it's old so idk if its still up.

I am however, thinking about selling the LS, I want to do the ball joints and tie-rods before I even post it forsale. Only because I'm going back to Afghanistan soon and my wife wants one of those new Ford Fusions, and I'm going to get her one because I dont want her driving the Evo's or the GVR4!

Ok cool. Forgive the suggestion. Just annoys me when people come on to the LS forum and talk crap about it...but it seems you do genuinely appreciate the car, or used to, so no hard feelings?

And Evos? as in more than one? Wish I could own at least one...
