What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

I did an oil change on one of the Marks today! :) Wasn't too much of a hassle. Almost fainted when I saw the position of the oil filter but swapping it wasn't too bad actually.
Also realised that the Mark is utterly useless in the winter, and I bought it for a winter beater.
Anyone have a suggestion of how to fix the grip? It's utterly useless. The grip is just not there! I have good studded tires on. What shall I do? 200lbs of dog food in the trunk or what? o_O Getting stuck everywhere.
On the other hand, the front end grip on the car is amazing, almost no need for ABS on it! Just lacks the rear end grip, badly.

I have yet to find a way to get the car to even get traction in the rain

Your car looks really nice!! I can't believe it has so many miles on it. You would never know from looking at it!!

Thanks! It really doesn't look that good up close, though:rolleyes:. The clear coat is peeling off on the fenders. There are little paint chips all over it. And little dents and dings everywhere too. But other than that, it looks pretty good. It's a good 20 footer:D And right now, it is in desperate need of a bath. And those pics were taken with an iPod camera. Low resolution helps a lot! I try to keep in in good condition since it's my daily driver.

Imagine then the Mark in Sweden up as far north (almost) as you can get :D
As soon as the car is rolling it's no problem. But from standing still, uuugh. Gets me sweaty at every stop light "will I get stuck or will the car get some traction!?" :D

Yeah. Gonna fix it though. Its not a flip car. Sapper will use it till he fixes the 98s motor. After that it will either be my new toy or his wifes car. She dont want a first gen but I like the car enough to fix its dammge and enjoy it for myself. :)

So I guess I did work on mine today! put a new passenger mirror on it and am trying to fix the center mirror. :D

Goatse and blue waffle? Really? Betcha it's the Florida street scene guys. If I was home I swear I'd take down that site so fast

Sounds like a quality set of individuals on that site if one of them comes here and pulls :q:q:q:q like that. That's really nice of him though for posting a picture of his mother and him like that. Looks like they've both been worked over pretty good! LOL

If you are driving on tar roads get rid of the studs get a good tire like a blizzak.

At the moment I have some budget tires on (hehe, left front one started shredding at 100mph :D) but thinking of getting some Nokian Hakkapeliitta's. Very good tires indeed. But I doubt that will really solve all of the grip problems. Getting stuck in ½ inch deep snow is seriously bad. Worse than my fathers Mercury Grand Marquis on summer tires.
I'm only driving on tar roads (that's tarmac, right?). All we have in Sweden.
Checked out the Blizzak's and they're studless and I myself prefer studded tires.

But thanks for the tip.
I'm thinking of buying a few bags of concrete and put them in the trunk. Should work. Hopefully.

I have been scraping the bottom of my mark in snow with blizzaks
No problem. This year I'm trying I-pikes so far I wish I had gotten blizzaks.
I have been driving a fox or mn platform cars in winter for 12 years no problem.

And you're having absolutley no problem at all with grip?
Must be my tires. A brand I have never seen before (tells it all pretty much).
50lbs of concrete in bags for $7. I think I might buy a few of those and try. If it doesn't work I'll just give it to a random person for christmas. Who would get upset when getting 200lbs of concrete? Perfect christmas present.

I don't think it's so much the tires as "how" you drive. I've driven nothing but RWD cars all my life. I've never owned a wrong-wheel-drive car. And I've never been stuck in the snow. Even with the Mark, I can get around pretty easily in a couple of inches of snow. If it gets any deeper than that, I'll break out the Exploder 4x4 and put 'er in low range. You just have to know how to handle a RWD car in less-than-ideal weather conditions. I think it's a "learned" skill that takes a lot of practice.
