What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Well the chrome inside the bottom of mine was messed up from moisture getting into the lights. I decided to take them apart and reseal them. I heated them a little in an oven to loosen the factory epoxy and seperated the lens from the housing. Removed the chrome from where I wanted to paint (it pretty much rubs off) masked and repainted with Krylon Fusion paint. The masking is the hardest part because even painters tape will peel the chrome off.

So it wasn't too hard to separate them? I've always wanted to do this to the inside of mine, but was too scared to really mess the lights up by pulling them apart in any way.

It is a bit of a pain but you would have to really try to mess them up. The housings and lenses are pretty strong. The epoxy ford used will get kind of greasy after a little heat (I had the oven at 250 degress and the door open) find a spot with a gap and start working a small screwdriver or putty knife around. I probably spent 30-45 mins seperating them.

Sweet. This is good news. I have a light that was backed into, but I can still experiment with it. Thanks man. Great lookin Mark you have there.

Now go spend some money on a camera...omg!

I ordered the customwheelshop staggered Bullitts. Can't wait to get them!

I know that I should have focused on replacing the front end components first but customwheel will not be carrying anymore of the deep lipped Bullitts. Had to grab them.

Take new video and back away from the car!!!

yea it's my "smart"phone.i cant hold the phone and move at the same time, and when you back away too much you dont get the sound. it helps to have a good sound system on the laptop for sound too. its going for dynotune as soon as i can get the time next week. still looking for a cobra intake though, but the gears are the first on the list of next mods then paint after i finish the bumper project.

Cleared the snow off of it from Friday's event's. Was going to swap rear coils but lost all motivation. The next few month's will be a busy, rear coils, filter adap gasket, new box, plat plugs, whatever's causeing the whining and maybe a moog front end rebuild.

Just drove it out to the little car lot at the end of my road to look at what may be my next DD.

It's a 1988 Merkur Scorpio. I have wanted one of these cars since I first saw one in way back in 1988 or '89. I love these cars! I know they weren't very popular. But they were RWD! This one is in very good condition inside and out. It is missing a couple of switches on the console (power windows I think) and it has one small rust spot on the right rear fender, and the paint on the cheesy plastic rear deck spoiler is flaking off. But that's typical. The interior leather looks fantastic for a 24 year old car. I don't know how many miles are on it or how much the guy wants for it. I called today but got no answer. I'm not a fan of 4-doors, but call me crazy, I just want this car. Originally, this was the Ford Scorpio/Granada in Europe. Built in Germany. This one has the 144hp 2.9L Cologne OHV V-6 (same basic block/heads as the 2.9L, 3.0L, and 4.0L Ranger/Explorer/Mustang V-6), but with different intake manifold with dual throttle bodies. It has a 4-speed auto, power everything (including power reclining back seats), moonroof, heated front seats, and who knows what else, 4-wheel disc brakes and 4-wheel independent suspension (unfortunately, it has struts in the front, but I can deal with it). Anyhoo, I'm going to try to call the guy again and get a price and mileage. I'm hoping he doesn't want an arm and a couple of toes for it. Maybe I can get it with my tax refund.

Have you called around and tried to find parts for that thing?? LMAO...
Ask for the simple stuff, brake components, alternator,
Starter, fuel pump ect ect before you buy it...when they tell you it's all obsolete, maybe that'll help you make a better educated decision

Oh yeah. I know you can't get parts for them anymore. I mean, you can, but they're expensive.

And those are just a couple of examples. So far, most of what I've looked up is comparable to prices and availability of our cars. It's the stuff like power window switches (there are three on fleabay, $30 bucks for the single and $55 for the master) and they're getting harder to find since the Merkurs were unique within the Ford lineup. They were German cars, so they shared little with their domestic cousins. But parts are available, if you can find them. But like I said, if he doesn't want a WHOLE LOT for it, I'll consider it. I just love those cars!

I suggest you love it being parked at the end of your drive, and not IN your drive.
