What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

got one strut rod off only to find out that the sleeves for the new bushings are like 1/8th of an inch to fecking small
Sleeves for new bushings....... please tell me you are not trying to install Moog strut rod bushings up front. You will be redoing this job by x-mas if you are.

Jeezus h Christ.

I have never seen so much complaining about a set of bushings. In 2005 I put a set of moog's on the 94, and after 5 years of HARD driving I replaced them preventativley.

I'll get another 5+ years of lowered, swaybar'd, big wheeled autocross style driving out of the new ones. Are we installing the things correctly?

Oops, sorry Bill.

Didn't proof read that post. I wasn't trying to sound pissed off there. Just trying to get my point across, that the things aren't as junk as some people lead on.

Mike

I thought most people found the bushings that prematurely failed were installed incorrectly?

Haven't done much to either of them lately. But I had to clean the shifter handle on the '96 yesterday. I was driving it and kept getting black, sticky crud on my hand. It turns out that there is some kind of sticky black goo seeping out around the chrome button on the shifter. Has anyone else seen this? WTF is that crap? It's irritating.

Its the underside of the leather, whever they glued it to the shifter with is breaking down. My old 94 did that too. Just either gotta put up with it, or buy a new shifter handle.

I put 96 TBird V8 Monroe Matics rear shocks on mine this week. Use the old bracket by removing the factory rubber in the mount. I used the supplied rubber and washer on the bottom and the original factory washer (inverted) on the top with no rubber. If you look at the factory setup it's not much different. Works fine for street use.

Lets see. I bought a 97 LSC that JUST had a set installed before I bought it. They lasted all of 4000 miles. I bought a new set and installed them and they failed in under 2000 miles. General consensus was they were installed backwards. Bought another set and installed them and took pics. Was told they are now installed backwards so I flipped them around thus discovering the previous two times they were installed correctly. They lasted apx 4000 miles.
Bought my 98 and it had Moog on the passenger side with apx 2000 miles on it and the factory SRB on the drivers side with 84K on it. The moog had the washer pulled through it and the OEM one was still good.
Sapperfire had Moogs on his yet was still getting a clunk. I jacked the car up and what do ya know? Yup, the moogs were bad and he said he just did them a few months prior.
I looked at a 95 a few months back that the dude was having stering issues. I said "Strut rod bushings" and he said he just paid $400 to have them replaced 4 months ago. I looked and they were still pretty blue but one had the washer pulled through it and the other side was split.

I have been down the road enough to know when Jamie, Tommy, Brandon etc etc say use OEM ONLY then I ONLY use OEM. I can swap all four SRBs in under an hour but that dont meen I wanna do it every few months. Alignments get expensive real fast when you do 4 a year.

Glad yours work great but in my experience they do not.
I will stick with OEM and tell people not to get the front Moog bushings.

absolutly nothing. someone really should buy it. It just sits there waiting and waiting.

And whilst you are doing that, I will continue to tell people otherwise.

Keep in mind that I've been working on these cars just as long as almost everyone you just mentioned. My 94 isn't the only viii I have installed them on nor is it viii's only, that I have put them on. T-birds and cougars have been regulars in my shop as well.

Sorry you have had bad luck with them, but a good majority of people have not.

Mike

Nothing today. But getting a new set of P245/50R16 tires put on the '97 LSC tomorrow. Can't wait to see what it looks like and how it handles compared to those puny little 215/60's that are on it now.:)

When are you fixing that nasty sounding exhaust?

hmm got really frustrated went out and sat in the drivers seat, closed my eyes, gripped the sterring wheel and made sounds that would represent a hot rod like laser, roadboss,or mschultz car.then i woke up.

chicken I dont live but 10 minutes from peoria. were you visiting chris? nice ride by the way.

I like it! And it sounds better every day. And my wife likes it. And that's all that matters since it's her car.:D

Today I got my 225/50's put on and changed the tranny fluid in the '97 LSC. Guess what? The fluid has never been changed. Or at least the filter hasn't. I pulled the pan and the little plastic dipstick plug was still in the pan. But the fluid was still nice and red. Which is a good thing. Pics forthcoming.

Eh ok , sounds kinda yuck like a hay hauler, but if she likes it..alriiighty
