What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Shot it yesterday. Until I get daylight pics these will have to do.

waiting for it to harden before buff. In the meantime I'll have lots of questions putting this badboy back together.

I will answer question number 1)...yes your wheels are on backwards

lookin good so far...I saw it in primer was wondering what kinda paint you had in mind

I picked up a brand NEW right 1/4 glass today, from my local glass install shop that scratched my outter glass with a razor blade while laying out the templates for my tint

Just got a CEL in the '97 LSC. My wife said it had been there since we had the 3rd cat removed and added the glasspacks. I hadn't noticed it until yesterday. Now I've got to go pull the codes to see what's wrong. Has anyone else had a CEL after deleting the 3rd cat? I would not think it would cause that since there's no O2 sensor behind that one. I'll know more when I have to codes read.

My neon went out. Pretty sure it was the ballast cause it flickered before it went out. I cant afford to get a Glitch ballast right now.

On Saturday I drove it to look at an 03 Cobra. A very nice ride indeed. Just can`t bring myself to get back into making auto loan payments. The Lincoln will just have to do for now.

I know that feeling:)

I'm planning on doing an experiment with the wife's '97 LSC. I'm going to remove the neon and install a strip of red electroluminescent tape and wire it into the brake lights. It may or may not work. But I've got a feeling it'll look pretty cool. I thought about using LED's, but I don't want the dot matrix look of a bunch of individual LED lights. The EL tape has a more even, uniform distribution of light. And it comes on just as fast as an LED. So we'll see when/if I get it done.

I thought about using EL tape for a taillight, but IMO it's just not bright enough to begin with (especially with my tinted tails.) And IIRC, EL tape loses about half of it's brightness over 2000-3000 hours, which would take awhile in a car, but it's another reason I've chosen to go a different direction.

Are you planning to use LED's or repair the neon?

Yesterday was a busy day for the Mark, she got an oil change, a transmission service, a K&N Air Filter, the headlights buffed out, and the passenger side door handle replaced. Was planning on installing the H&R Drop Springs and Tokico's but I was spent afterward. Felt like it was 1,000 degrees in the shop!

**They look way better in person of course, just amazing what it does for the overall appearance.

Had it towed from the shop where I was going to put in the engine to my mother-in-laws where I am going to put in the engine!!! Cleaned the engine bay and cleaned the engine. Brought a bunch of misc. parts that pertain to the installation over to my mother-in-laws house too! Almost ready to put the engine in and would start a progress thread but it is going to be a slow one. Only have about 1 or 2 days a week for a couple of hours per day that I can work on it! Hmmm I might as well start one tomorrow when I have some pics to put up.

Have fun! Its some work but its fairly rewarding...... I think.

So I spent all day sweatin my arse off and almost killed myself a few times but the motor is in my LSC. :wrench
Got a lot of little things to do but it should be running this weekend...... maybe even tomorrow if I aint too beat up from today.

Preciate that Laser and yeah I will be rewarded also. If you look at my signature than you will see how much I like these cars! lol That is all I have ever had, besides my wifes cars. As for mine, my first and last and all in between were Mark Viii's! Glad to see yours is going smoothly!

Well, I had to replace the Brake Power Booster.. not a very hard job, 3 hours baking in 92degree heat was really a killer, bending over on my back to get those Damn nuts off the interior is really a pain in the back.! anyway, its done and a really close call when I lost all brakes in the car with the kid in there. just glad it was not highway travel!
BTW... now the booster is new, should I replace the Master Cyl. ? I have thought of replacing all of the brake components but is that really such a good idea? with the ABS pump, do I have to bleed the brakes a special way?
Thanks
Bill

Finally replaced the rear springs on my '96 this morning. I've got a friend who let me borrow his lift. Took about 30 minutes. Pie job. I didn't expect it to be so easy. The old ones were completely shot. The ones I got were used but in great condition. No dryrot evedent. Hopefully they'll last a while longer.

looking for rattles in the rear end found two hose clamps to the fill tube to the gas tank loose, fuel line loose from the plastic block.

I think I am leaking oil from the valve cover bolts

Got my LSC bumper covers and side mouldings wet sanded. Still need to repair a tear in the rear cover. Hope to have them finished and ready to go on next weekend.

Been spending all my spare time and money on the 57. Have 2 months worth of "What have you done" for it.

The Kid is going to earn his money when he comes to KC to detail. The Junkyard Mark hasn't been cleaned in like 3 months! A black on black freaking mess

Finally finished rechroming the side trim and bumper trim on my '96 yesterday. Took long enough. It looks 100% better now! Now I've got to do something about the ripples on the rear window molding.

Spent the weekend wrenching on the car. Upped the converter from 3800 to 4200+ stall speed. Resealed the differential cover and installed a new tranny mount.

Well, Spent Thursday night replacing the power brake booster, Spent Friday letting my back recover... :( Spent Saturday replacing the Drivers side seat track only to find the plastic base for drivers seat cracked in half too... FUBAR! anyway went and braced the plastic in several differnt locations.. now stronger then original... yea! after the slice and dice on my hands and arms from thursday and Saturdays events, I then had to replace the Air Ride compressor and Fuel filter since I was in there any way, also remove the air silencer cone from under the Filter box, Car seems a bit more peppy!

Side note, the compressor is working fine, however the original issue is not resolved! The car pumps up fine and will inflate the bags in less the 30 Seconds, only after I take it on a ride that causes the system to auto lower at speed, I get the check air message, could this be the "SS Relay"?

What doi you all think. Is this a possible symptom? could replacing the relay solve this? I do just happen to have a spare but really didnt want to rip it apart again.. Oh I did hear the Compressor (originally) surge, surge, surge momentary prior to replacing it.. like it would engage for a second, then cut out.. I thought it was the electric motor binding when it got too hot.. that is what it seems like to me. could it just have been the relay crapping out?

Drove the '96 to work today. First time in a couple of weeks. So far so good. Rear springs holding up just fine. I think she's good to go for a few more miles. And when I was putting the info in my service log, I just went back a year to see what I was doing to the car back in August of 2009 and noticed that I've only put 5K miles on the car in a year. I've been driving my Explorer a lot lately and letting the Mark rest since the rear springs started periodically leaking. So that's neato.
