What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

If you were able to tap on a few things to get it running, I'm sure it's something simple. It might be a heat related problem and maybe something cooled off just right at the same time you were knocking on a few things. He drove it and it heated up again and died. Make sense? Voltage regulator maybe... I know nothing about Explorers but it really sounds like something heat related. If you go back to it today and it cranks right up, you'll know then. I wouldn't call a wrecker until I knew it wasn't going to make it home on it's own.

I'm kinda thinking the same thing. Because it had cooled off by the time I got there. I started it up when I got there and it wouldn't idle. So I jiggled the spark plug wires and tapped on TPS, IAC, and coil pack with the wrench and then it fired right up. I won't know what's going on until I can get it in daylight and check things out where I can see. But I think it is either heat (electrinics getting hot?) or vacuum related.

I agree, but it only took it a couple of minutes of driving for it to die last night and it's parked about 25 minutes away from home. So I'm kinda worried it won't make it. And I've got a friend coming with his tow dolly this afternoon, so no real biggie there. And I'm sure when I get it home it will be something simple. It's been running too good for something serious to be wrong...hopefully...

I hate to pollute the Mark forum with my Exploder woes, but I just had to vent.:)

Installed new u-joints

I wouldn't worry about it. It's been polluted with the words "air struts" many times and that's worse than any Explorer problem. :p

Amen to that!!!:)

You did at least do something with your Mark. You followed your son for a few minutes...

Yep. That I did. And unfortunately, I got the Ex home yesterday and it's still acting up. I'm leaning toward clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump. I'm going to change the filter today. Went back through my service log and I've never changed the filter. And I'm pretty sure the previous owner(s) didn't either (the poor fuel filter is one of the most overlooked maintenance items of all). So given the truck's 18 years of age and 155K miles, I'm sure its probably totally clogged. I'll know when I get home and install the new one:D

As for the Mark, I drove it to work today and noticed a "wawawawawawawawa" noise coming from the rear end. That's not good. Wheel bearing? Differential? Tire out of round? I just don't know yet. It's one thing after another around here.:(

Drove mine today. Upset that I can't "turn off" my traction control.

And noticed that the difference in speed that my speedometer is off, changes the faster I go.... that's odd. First its 10mph off... then 20mph off and close to 30mph when I'm doing 70-75mph!

Looks beautiful, man!
I especially like the shot of the red plastic kid's chair reflected in your wheels.

Can I have your paint job when you're done with it?

Jeez man I can't believe how clean your car is for it having 90k miles on it..that leather is spotless..hopefully you keep it cleaned all the time when you start driving it daily..you haven't started driving it yet right?

Fresh set of autolite double platinums, new wires, couple of vacuum hoses and cleaned the maf and throttle body runs like a whole different car but can't figure out why the auto headlights wouldn't work but then they did

Thanks i really appreciate it. And i've had that chair since i was like 3, i use it to wash the rims its easier then crouching for 10 minutes a rim. I still have like 5 or 6 of them. That paints all original except for the rear bumper, hood and right rear quarter panel - everything else was never touched.

Yeah me either, previous owners had it garaged its whole life (they were 2nd owners and got the car with 20k miles after first owner leased it). The leathers immaculate, the drivers seat was reupholstered but everything else is all original. Im a nut when it comes to cars, i hate to see any car dirty especially mine. And no i haven't started driving it daily yet, soon though :) I'm taking drivers ed, ill be finished with that in June, road test will be in July or August and i get my license in december. Whenever my dad goes to the store i volunteer to take my car lol, but now im not allowed to drive anymore until i get a license. Drivers ed teacher told all the parents that your house could get taken away if a kid with a permit crashes your car. But i move it around in front of my house to wash it and i start it up everyday when i can. Long ass reply lol

Oh and if you look close up you can see swirl marks from me hand waxing it, its needs a good buffing and it'll look 10x better than it does now lol :D It still looks amazing from close up just needs to get buffed and it'll be 100%

got the new mark on the road today, drives pretty good, i replaced the WHOLE front suspension/steering and all the brakes with brand new stuff but every time i hit the brake the steering wheel shakes as if the rotors are warped. pisses me the eff off.

Where do I start? I changed inner tie rod ends, lower & upper ball joins, UCA, LCA, strut rod bushings, and swap bar links!

Cleaned the maf
Cleaned the tb
Changed Air filter
Seafoamed it twice, you know, just to make sure it was clean :)
Poured some in the tank
Lubed my lower shift linkage
Washed and vaccuumed

After all of that I sold these. It's a sad day.

Drove it to work this morning. She's running and driving great. But now I can't get the heat to go off!!! Before, it was cool and I couldn't get the heat to come on without doing the glovebox trick. Now it's stuck on heat and won't go to cool. The funny thing is that it went from cool to hot by itself when I changed the temp one morning when it was cool outside. Now it won't go back to cool. Good thing it's not hot today:)

On another side note, after a lot of checking stuff and talking to several people, we have concluded that the fuel pump is pretty much toast on my Exploder. And it makes sense. The thing's 18 years old and has 160k miles on it. And the fuel pump has been extremely noisy and whiney lately. So I ordered a new one yesterday and hopefully I'll have it installed this week.

That sucks thaywood lol, i hate having the heat on in the car. I'm in NY and in the winter i like to just sit with no ac or heat on, spring & summer time windows open and sunroof tilted. good luck fixing it

umm, 18w6's.

I only had em in for a day. They got stupid loud but felt they were peaky with the box in the cabin. I just wanted my backseat and rearview mirror back.
I have type r's as a backup substage so i'm in no rush to purchase new ones. Off the top of my head some skar vvx's, ID max's, sundown's or a trifecta or some type of ten's are on the "list" when the time comes.

P.s. They were powered correctly.
