Why do we love owning these Mark VIII's?

I had wanted a Mark VIII since they first came out in '93. I saw that commercial on TV where the car lowered itself and went under that steel I-beam and I fell in love. I was driving a '69 Cougar and an '87 Mustang hatch at the time. I went to Bill Smith Ford in Southern Pines and the salesman took me for a drive in a brand new '93. He wouldn't let me drive it though (I'm sure he wasn't going to let some college kid with a part time job behind the wheel of a $40k luxury car:)). It was smooth, powerful, and supremely comfortable. I wanted it sooooo bad. So, eight years later, I ended up getting a 60K mile '96 for $4k at a used car lot. That car was sold last year and now I drive my wife's old '97 LSC that she "gave" me when she got her '96 Cobra convertible. I plan on keeping this car for a loooooooooooong time! It just tripped 200k miles and still going strong. I kind of get a chuckle when folks tell me my car has a Cobra engine in it. I love seeing the confused look on their face when I tell them the DOHC 4.6L V-8 was introduced in '93 in the Mark VIII and the Cobra didn't get it until '96:D

i love that nobody ever knows what it is. I can think of at least 11 people at work , who asked me what kind of car is it. I love the look i get when i tell them its a 98 lincoln with 240,000 thousand miles on it. They cant believe it.

its different. flies under the radar for most people. its a little bit sneaky. it has a capable engine, its reliable, and gets the guys at the alignment shop excited when i bring it in. :D and i like that.

Because its different... and challenging. Yet easy to work on.

Plus, all my friends who've never seen one in person absolutely love the interior, especially the dash

I can't count how many people have asked me what year "Thunderbird" it is. And several more have told me I have a real nice "Cougar".

You got that right! It was very surprising to me after I got my first Mark VIII how easy most things are to work on in this car. One would generally assume that with the technology this car is equipped with, it would be a pure PITA to do anything to. Especially considering that the MN12 platform was not designed to be fitted with a V-8 engine in the first place:eek: Even with that little 281 cubic inch V-8 with those gigantic heads shoehorned into the engine bay, there's still enough room to work on just about everything. I live this car!!!!!

I love my Lincoln, and have gave it more attention than any of my stangs..... which isn't a good thing btw... lol

My mustang got put in storage cause of my mark then eventually sold it for parts cause I let it sit to long outside. That poor mustang it makes me sad that I let it go.
But long live my mark I have had it for 8 years 11 months.

Man I'm in same boat. My old pride and joy 90 Mustang LX 5.0 Conv has been sitting out in weather covered best I can and going to pot. I did every single thing to it and there it sits,

Boo hoo

Took mine to the car wash last week, and the kid (about 20) at the end of the thing that dries off what the giant blower missed told me "Dude, I *LOVE* your car!"

I love the way the dash wraps around me.
I love the knods I get in traffic from Cadillac STS drivers.
I love cruising through Butte in my shades and my black Charles Manson tee shirt, with Rammstein cranking on the stereo. Dunno why, it just makes me feel good.
Wouldn't be anywhere near the same in a Honda.

Nice car! Looks good except for that hole in the top. You need to drive that thang!!!

Thanks, that was nice pic right before it got put up. It does not look that nice now. That hole was in top day I bought car in 1999($700). I have a complete black top/frame off another stang I parted. Car is turning into a mouse house.

A few reasons why i love this car are its unique, has power and looks amazing when all cleaned up. I first saw a mark viii when my dad bought it around 4 years ago, when he pulled it into the driveway i just knew i had to have one. i was 12 and was obsessed with the car lol. I told him when its time for me to get a car i'm buying one and he didn't want me to do that so last august he said to me and my bro, you can both share the car or i can take it and give him some $$ towards a car. Luckily my brother hates the mark viii so i took it without hesitation. I absolutely love this car. It's comfortable, has balls and has nice styling. I also like that i've only seen maybe 6 other mark viii's besides mine ever, so owning i guess you could say a rare car is cool. The inside is like a couch and has all the bells and whistles you could ask for, whether its a LSC or base. I'm going to get some subwoofers and finish my sound system sometime this year and make it real nice. Everytime i go outside i look at my car and think to myself, damn i can't believe thats mine.

Sound like a young guy, so when are the new sport rims and tires going on. It would change the look 100%.

Yeah i'm only 16 lol. Hopefully next year i'll have enough money saved up for some 18x9 Cobra R's wrapped in Continental extreme contact dws all seasons, 245/45/18 up front and maybe 265/45/18 out back- i want to stagger them. Tirerack has some rims that i like, i'm just not sure how good they would look.

They're 18x8 Platinum Apex rims, black w/ machined lip. I think with red calipers it would look sick. I'd run 245/45/18 all around.
