I'm not sure if this is true for all variable color illuminated head units, but on my Kenwood, the colors that change are only the backlighting for the buttons. The color on the display screen does not change.

Yeah I read the original post wrong, I thought he meant the LS was already getting it's rear end fixed. I wouldn't be surprised if your insurance company tried to tell you your car is worth like 2k less than it should be since your tranny is going out. (if it's totaled)

I'm pretty sure it depends on what receiver you get. When I switched out the HU in my F150, the harness that plugged into the truck had a wire for steering wheel controls even though I don't have them.

IIRC, (And it hasn't already been stated) Michigan is one of the states that uses the most salt on their roads.. You might want to look at buying a car from further south. If you end up keeping this vehicle as your daily driver for awhile, the extra 6 years of salt free roads before you got it...
