My "custom" coolant crossover cap

Well, I attempted to cut the hex into the first one I made and it completely sucked. The chuck that I used to hold it was crappy and didn't hold it well enough. It was very loose and couldn't be tightened.

Anyway, I made another one and it turned out much better. I ended up using a different and better chuck that held it very tightly and was all around better. The second picture looks as though it's not a very good hex shape, but it's actually nearly perfect. Here's the pictures....

Or...why not just weld a nut to the top of the original and call it quits?

Almost any lug nut would work, use one with the bevelled end, use the bevel to fill in more weld, then fill in the center of the nut, it'd be a near 100% weld

You're more than welcome to do that with yours. This is what I chose to do for mine. Cuz I can, that's why. :p
I'd rather have one solid piece of metal than a welded contraption. It'll look better too.

And would defeat the purpose of a new cap.
And fine.....

40 bucks.

Give me a couple weeks and I'll paypal ya. My new engine is going in at the beginning of the year.

I'll make you one with 2 flats on it, rather than a hex. The hex takes way too long, and it won't be anywhere near worth my time.

Like I told 94m5, I'll make one with 2 flats on it that you can stick a wrench on for $40. Otherwise, it's not worth the time to make them.

Either this, or maybe a square. That wouldn't be anywhere near as annoying and time-consuming as a hex. It's a lot harder to mess up.

I wish i still could do "government work" at work this wouldn't be much trouble at all if you could do it in a cnc.. It would prolly make it profitable if there were enough of them...

Yeah, the original intention was to do them on a CNC lathe, but we lost our contract with the air force base to use their equipment, so no CNC lathe yet. We've got 2 CNC lathes sitting in our warehouse right now, but we don't have a place to set them up yet. We don't really know when we will, either. lol. Right now, all we have is the CNC mill, a bridgeport mill, and a couple huge-ass lathes...

That's almost exactly what I ended up using. It was much easier, but still wasn't super fun.

Well CNC is the only thing I would consider fun when machining is involved.

However when I used that head it was done without even removing the vice off the Mill. A lunch time break deal a few days and I had a set of 316 stainless lugs that I was dumb enough to leave on a car when I sold it :(

Bastard prolly didn't realize he got a car with a couple hundred dollar set of lug nuts on it

Looks great but
if your mill is cnc why didnt you just program the hex in
so you could make more

40.00 when and where can i semd the money to ur paypal?

That looks sweet!
I welded a big nut to mine and filled in the top and smoothed it all, it looks like yours with a hex, but not stainless which would be really nice! Good work :)

I am an amateur machinist. I don't know anything about using the CNC mill. THe guy that does was out this week. This was a super slow week, and I had nothing better to do. I wanted to practice using the lathe and this was the first thing I thought of. I'd say it was a very good piece to practice/learn on.

That's what I originally planned to do, but I figured why not try this? I need to do all of this kind of stuff now, while I'm still at this command. I get out of the navy next October.

Anyone that wants one can PM for ordering details. I'll make them on an as-ordered basis, and you'll have to give a few days to get it made, once paid for.
Maybe longer, depending on when you order it. I'll be out of town for a week over Christmas.

Here's some pictures of one of them installed in a wrinkle black powdercoated crossover tube....
