My "custom" coolant crossover cap

I wish you had an LS so you could make us some parts.

Excellent work.

Do you have a pic of one twisted onto the tube? I'd like to see what one does look like put on.

yeah.

Here's some pictures of one of them installed in a wrinkle black powdercoated crossover tube....

Thanks for the input!

That was a relatively small shop. I don't think they've got any more than about 10 people working there. I do believe their rate is about $75/hr though...

There's a couple other local places that I found today. I'm hoping at least one of them will be able to do it for a reasonably cheap price. I'll try stopping in to one of them tomorrow on the way home.

Changing the design is really not much of an option for me. The design is really one of the highest selling points. There was guy on the mustang forums making them out of hex stock. While functional, they looked pretty hideous. I wanted the functionality of it, but at the same time, I wanted something that I'd be proud to display smack-dab in the middle of my engine bay.

The other big selling point is the fact that it's stainless. People hear "stainless" (most notably, Cobra owners) and they just HAVE to have it. Plus, switching to steel wouldn't yield very much of a price break, and then you'd have to factor in the price of the plating...

I really do appreciate the input though man. Thanks! :)

No problem,
I understand how you want to keep the design, it could still be blanked out on a screw machine, the hex put on as a secondary operation on a VMC.

I don't know if your volume is there to do it, it would be a min of 200 pcs. to bring the price down.

I agree the cobra crowd will want the S.S. cap, but I wonder if a mild steel with black oxide plating would sell to the Mark crowd.
Mild steel would bring the price down, no doubt about it.

I like the black oxide plating idea. Either way, I would most likely paint mine with some sort of high heat black paint anyway. Really wouldn't care for the stainless look but would like for the cap to be stainless.

Can I be in the super shiny crossover cap club now???

Ooooo. Sapper just gave me another chiny part to add under the hood.

Quick question for DLF, the crossover tube, what did you do to it? I looks good.

No. You can be in the "shiny crossover cap that's gonna rust and give you the same seizing problems as the stock cap" club. They're closely affiliated, though.
Sorry, these are solid stainless steel, and all-new construction. You just can't compare to this...

Here's the one on my car, Terry. The crossover tube is powdercoated wrinkle black...

This is one in a stock-looking matte black crossover tube for a guy on LOD...

I like that. Looks good! Are you ever going to get a run of them going or is the price just gonna be too high to mess with? If I was buying, I would prefer black myself. Black matte, not the wrinkle stuff.

Also, I like Sappers too but I'm also not going to be throwing up the hood at car shows and where I live, there's not any rust and out of all three Marks I have had, neither of them ever rusted on the cap. If I needed to remove one, it would come right off with no problems. I like them both and rust in Alabama don't scare me at all.

I would be interested in getting one since I have to burp via the hose. I can't even open mine. Also would be interested in purchasing the a new crossover with the trick powercoat and I will send you mine. Let me know what the price is for the complete set and if you want to consider taking mine.

or you could send me the dimensions like you said you going to MONTHS AGO Jay.....
got the machines, got the material (including cr-mo steel) and got the time to get a BUNCH of these done. I just need to remake my fixtures again.

Drive him fellas. Daddy wants to fund an LS head on 351 block engine.
Got a waterjet too Jay... shock mounts?

I want one. If we keep it in the $40 range, I'm on board. Thanks for reviving an old thread. :)

I promised Jay I would not poach coolant caps off of the lincoln forums.....
however nothing was said about LS parts...
I am thinking about going to the local stealership and buying a new cap... then I won't have to wait on Jay anymore.

Plating is cost prohibitive unless you are doing 300 or more. I looked into it already. I don't want to have that kind of inventory on hand. However eastwood sells a cheap DIY plating kit.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking I might make my own. I'm a machinist. I'm thinking I might engrave a little Lincoln emblem on the top of it. I already have a program for the emblem that I wrote when I was thinking about making my own trunk lock badge. I never got around to that, but I could scale it for the top of the cap.

I would buy one Jay. Provided the price was within range of what everyone else is saying. 40-ish
