What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

I think he may have been talking about the Lucas Oil Stabilizer with stop leak. I've used it a couple of times. It's just like any other stop leak. It don't work...Only way to stop the leak is to fix it.

+1

The only way to fix a leak is to replace the gaskets or seals, anything else is just adding trash to your system

Tried to change the oil filter adapter gasket. Got the 3 bolts out, then got a solid grip and rounded the 4th while yanking on it?? Tried all kinds of madness but couldn't get it out.

First failed repair. Let's hope the lucas helps slow the leak down..

man, that sux...were you using a wobbly adapter?

Switching from Conventional oil to Synth will increase the rate of leak.. not the other way

Mobil 1 High Mileage is formulated with seal swells that will help eliminate leakage. Conventional oil swells the seals more than normal synthetic oil and that's why Mobile 1 makes the high mileage synthetic because they added what it needs to swell the seals and get the best of both worlds. :) Took me a while to learn this but I did.

Didn't add anything to my oil when it was leaking. I agree with thaywood and Sapp! The only way to stop that oil leak is to replace the gasket. It's only gonna get worse!

I've been using semi-syn high mileage for the last 2 or 3 changes and my minor nuisance leaks have all but disappeared.

pulled the trans in the 95,

put 95 electronics in the 98 trans.

now all i have left to do is,

install trans, fix my exhaust (broke bolts for manifold to cat) install new grill/headlights, change oil and install my new climate control head unit "EATC"?

then go get an inspection sticker!

neon

hit the jackpot with a working neon ( no ballast ) for $75 on ebay. got it everything looked good except no weatherstrip across the top and mounting studs were epoxied on ( you get what you paqid for ) After two years of ownership and feeling naked w/o a working neon I was pumped to have it work finally. I plugged it in to my after market ballast and it lit up fine. For the price i was going to deal with weatherstrip but, guess what, the studs were epoxied on out of line just enoght to put pressure on them and all of them broke loose when tightened. Complained and seller returned $ and said keep it. Rather than paying through the nose for another one I am going to see what i can rig up. I will probably have 200k on ths in two years so it does not have to last forever.

Anyone out there ever cracked one of these babies open successfully( rear neon light assembly). THe back on mine and weatherstrip are fine bulb is dead?

They have been opened and LED's installed instead. Someone on here done it and made a video on YouTube to show how good it lights up. I doubt you're going to be able to fix the neon bulb itself but what do you have to lose?

I was using 2 6' extensions and the socket that can move in different directions on the end..the damn thing just wouldn't turn.

I know not to go to synthetic oil, I just hope the leak doesn't get bad because the last bolt head is mangled now.

And yeah, I was referring to that lucas oil additive crap

i know..thanks for reminding me..hate winter, hopefully I'll be at work before it starts, and it'll just sit all day and get snowed on and the streets will be cleaned up before I leave wednesday morning...but that's just hopeful thinking

You have to get that last bolt out! It's the only way! That housing gasket has to be replaced! After that, chances are it will never have to be done again! NO MORE WORRIES!

now is not the time to give up. you're so close. fwiw, the last bolt was a bitch for me too. on the bottom. fought all the way out, and all the way back in.

Mine was the one behind the power steering pump. Is that the one your talking about? (the one you can't see). It took me 6 hours to change that gasket, but with a little time it came out. It sounds like he needs something that can grip a stripped bolt in that hard to reach and see location!

yep, probably that one.

i did it in around an hour or 2 of actual work. i don't count the time it takes me to hunt down tools. it certainly wasn't fun. i replaced the opsu and and added an aftermarket oil pressure gauge too.

I'll be doing my oil filter adapter gasket soon. The leak is getting pretty bad. I just had to add a quart of oil yesterday and I can smell the oil burning when I'm at a stoplight :( I'm not looking forward to it. I remember doing the one on my '96 and it wasn't fun. But for some reason, I think it maybe easier on this one because it seems to be easier to work on than the '96 was. I just don't know when I'll be able to get to it because I've got the kids with me this coming weekend and next weekend I'm going out of town for a friend's birthday. And it's raining like cats and dogs today and is supposed to do it for the rest of the week  So I'll get to it eventually...

I got my tag yesterday evening. $28.17 :D Maybe today or tomorrow, I'm taking the new Motorcraft oil filter that I have and getting the Mobil 1 Model M1-210 instead. O'Reilly's has it in stock for $12.00 or you can get a 2 pack for $22.00 from Amazon. Not sure which one to do but I'm going to be using that filter. I have already drained the oil only and replaced with a 5 quart jug of Mobile 1 High Mileage FS to clean it out good and get the seal sweller rolling through because my adapter gasket has already been changed. The High Mileage FS worked like it should. Now I'm going to get 6 fresh quarts and go with the Mobile1 filter and see if they'll take the Motorcraft filter as aswap that I got from rockauto. :D If not, no big deal. Going back to Wal-Mart and getting one 5 quart jug and a quart of Mobile 1 High Mileage fully synthetic and then change it completely. I'll be good to go for 10,000, even though it does say 15,000. I'm not pushing it that far. It will be a long time before I ever make it for 10K miles anyway. I would estimate 3 years or more and yes, I'm serious.

Also going to change out the plugs to the Autolite XP-104's that I got over a month ago. Coming off the Autolite 764's finally.

any helpful hints on a stuck steering wheel? we are trying to remove the steering wheel to replace the column. it pulled the threads and the 2 helicoils and still wont budge!
