What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

My Kenwood took a poo over the weekend, so I had a cheapy Eclipse Nav Unit installed yesterday. To be honest, I like it a lot more than my Kenwood:steering

I may have not been pushing in far enough. I used two bent coat hangers- I duplicated the tool they had over at Carquest, at least it looked the same, but it's only about 2 or 21/2 inches in length. I do have plenty of raw material for this particular tool (this is where the world adds the ubiquitous LOL, yes?). Can I spray a little WD40 in there to facilitate removal? Or will I be in danger of FUing my climate control? My home made cold air with the silencer gone and K&N installed gave it more pep, but that is a bonus because it is better mileage I am after. My primary object when buying this car and fixing it is to obtain a comfortable freeway flier.

Oh yes, I forgot to ask if the drier can be serviced? Or is it even replaceable? Now that the leaks are fixed I am worried about how hard the compressor was working to keep things up. Any standard maintenance like you do to pneumatic tools? Thanks for all the advice. I promise to not flaunt the $54 and change I have in my pocket...................

ok well i didnt do it today but last week i did. heres a lil background my old headunit had 2 rca outputs (fail) had to have the old one hooked up running the ft and rear rca's to the 4 channel amp then the "sum output" from the amp running to an active crossover then to the sub amp (yeah i know) it worked but any adjustment to the interior speakers would greatly affect the subs. so after dealing with it for a few years id had enough and got a HU with 3 rca outputs and did it right and wow theres all the bass i was missing! i thought it sounded good before (ask the kid) well now she pounds. i got tired of trying to find a non cd changer trunk carpet (since ford cuts a big hole in it for the changer) and my amps were gettin kinda warm, i had them in the stock amp tray and with the summer sun just beating down on the rear dash they kept rather warm, so i decided to relocate them and ditch the changer, made some wedges to mount the amps to and got some cheep carpet (only had black or tan wanted gray) to wrap them in. the plexi has been in for a couple years now and i know the lettering is crooked but i got a new plan thats why i aint messed with that yet :shifty:
the amps are old (early 90's) MTX thunder's and a MTX crossover (same vintage) is hidden behind the air susp/fuel reset door. and dont nobody laugh at my pio subs, i had the mtx subs that "matched" the amps but they didnt live long i got these pio's for cheap and they just keep on going so if it aint broke dont fix it

there nolimit and laser heres pics of my system (you both asked over a year ago lol)

I'll never part it out - might give it away eventually. I might swap the interior for black someday - if I do then you can have the smurf stuff.

Chicken, those are the very last of the good MTX amps. Not much in features but they have nice clean solid power.

So anyway today I went grocery shopping and on the way back stopped to grab a burger. As I was leaving the drivethrough the "Check Traction Controll" error showed up. It went away so I was thinking a power issuse. Well while at the gas station after filling it up it wouldnt start. :( Had a trunk full of frozen crap just melting away. Fortunatly I got a jump and it seemed to hold at 13.2 volts. I figured the heat has taken its toll and my battery just died. After running some tests when I got hom it seems the batery is fine witrh a 12.79 rest voltage. Alt is pumping out 13.78 which is good for as hot as it was. Then the light bulb lit up and I remembered I forgot to buy a new ground strap for the passenger side of the motor so the cars ENTIRE electrical system has been running off a 10awg ground wire from the battery. So now I know (or am fairly sure) what the issue is. Gonna go buy a new strap now and see if it works.

i got them from midwestbird when i was doing the engine in the thundermark a few years ago and ive been givin them a good workout ever since. funny enough i have the matching crossover from when i was 18

Ok so I have been told that 5.4 dohc heads fit on the 4.6 and give it +100 hp is this true I bought the heads but they were junk

yeah sounds like it. the heads will bolt to the block but thats about it, not sure if the intake or exhaust ports will be the same (ford likes it mix it up a bit) and it wont magically give you 100 hp the 5.4 DOHC heads could even be the same as our "B-head"

Here is a response I got when my buddy and built his stang with a 4V motor.

Will the heads interchange, yes. the 5.4 navi heads have juge intake ports.

is it worth it, no.

takes a little finesse to get the cobra or mach intake on. one way to make it a little easier (but expensive) is to get a sullivan intake manifold and port it a little to port match. unless you plan on F/I, big bore, etc, then the navi heads are a little much.

the differences in head flow of 99/01 or 03/04 is minimal/if any after porting.

the intake manifold becomes a restriction once you start approaching the 400rwhp mark, a psr or madified aviator would be the next step to take. head cooling mod is something that 4v's benefit from as well, something to look into no matter if car is stock or modified.

I had a pair of ported 5.4 heads off a Navi on my Mach 1 and I got some good gains but I had a ton of :q:q:q:q done to it as well. No head swap is gonna give a hundred ponies.

checked my stereo wiring and replaced the rca that was fading in/out..(possible bad connection).Sounds alot better now but if it starts again i'll recheck my loc wires.

next time you guys start pm me so i can make some popcorn.

blah......ended up the rca's were fine and it continued to fade in/out today...check the connections at the amp and rear fuse again..checked out good..checked the fuse at the battery (forgot) and the input wire got loose while i was working on it last week. So i tightened her up and got it in a more secure place were me working on the front end wont effect it.

I'll say it again....it's working fine for now.

Drove the wife's '97 LSC to the grocery store last night to get a bottle of zin and noticed the check engine light was off. I haven't driven the car in a week and last time I drove it the CEL was on. She said it's been on since we got the 3rd cat cut off and the glasspacks installed. I thought maybe that had something to do with it, but it didn't make sense because there's no O2 sensors behind that 3rd cat. I never got the chance to check the codes but if it comes on again, maybe I will. I'm just glad it's gone.

Hey I got these air ride parts I want to trade or sell them pump works hieght sencers should work

i fixed my p.o.s 93. i took the oil filter adapter plate off, was deff the cause of the oil spill, put a new gasket on, replaced the coolant hose from the t-stat to the oil filter adapter, new clamps, new oil, new coolant, removed the moonroof glass and part of the track, replaced with glass and track parts from the rosemist, moonroof cant be pushed up by hand anymore, so apparently thats fixed too, we'll see what happens when it rains, i changed the coolant tank because the sensor was bad in the original, kept saying low coolant, i cleaned the inside of the car and vacuumed the carpet, wiped down the interior, put a new air freshner in for my wife, now she can have her car back and i'm still gonna keep my eye out for a gen 2 for her. so i fixed it, she's picking it up from the shop tomorrow. i dont ever want to change that gasket on a mark again, i almost set my shop on fire thats how pissed off i got!
