What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Busy night....

Ran the speaker/rca wire looms f+r to the h/u location. Put the kick panels, lower step panels and lower dash pieces back in place. Lookin nice n' neat.

Soldered my hardwired connections for my gps and radar at the fuse box.

Ripped out my hardwired fm modulator and mp3 charger.

Rtv'd a section of weather stripping on the drivers side by the top corner of the windshield to fix a really bad leak that developed. Hope it works.

Just parked the '96 for a little while because we just got a 45K mile '96 Mustang Cobra convertible. I'm probably going to sell the '96 Mark VIII. Anybody need/want one?

The Cobra is black with black/tan leather interior and black top. It has Eibach lowering springs, caster/camber plates, and K&N air filter. The thing is scary fast! I love it! Unfortunately, it's my wife's car. And if I'm lucky, she may let me drive it once in a while. Looks like I've inherited the '97 LSC, which ain't exactly a bad thing:)

Should have bought a camera instead.

Can't afford one (especially now after buying the Cobra):(. Sorry. Those were taken with my iPod, and shrunk to a more manageable size. Besides, I can't do smokey burnouts or bark second with a camera...duh!:D

^^ I see a super weekend motor swap without the wife knowing in your future!

We shall see...:D:cool:

Well my Mark drove me to a Job Interview in Alpha where I will be starting Monday as a Tool & Die maker :D

After 3 months as a temp to test me out I'll have a killer job finally and can put some much needed things into my Mark to make it more fun. Problem is I will have a 70 miles round trip a day so no deep gears :(

Watched/listened to the wife drive out this morning in the Cobra and remembered that it's a Fox chassis and has frakkin' struts up front. But I don't care! That car is BAD-A$$!!! Looked at the '96 sitting in the driveway with no tags and felt a little sad. Drove the '97 LSC to work and felt a little better about the whole deal:)

Trimmed up the dash for the dd. Easier then i had first thought. Also trimmed the tabs off the dd kit to make it fit.

Hooked up the new remote wire and rca's to the amp.

Cleaned up the oem amp/loc/cellphone harness in the trrunk and stuck it above the wheelwell behind the carpet.

Plan on finishing it up tonight after work..

Congrats on the new purchase! LOL at scary fast. Come on man, its stock. :woowoo2:

Sure are taking a lot of time for such a simple install. I thought I was slow with taking 6 hours for my install.

Thats two sets of components, 3 amps, cap bank, sub box, NAV system and complete re-wire.

I have a job so i work on it a little every day or so. That and i'm being very anal w/ this install and not rushing it. Gunna get it right the first time and leave it alone.

We're not all as experienced at car audio installs... I'm doing 2 sets of components, 2 amps, a pair of subs and a line converter (just for the radio, my phone or tablet will be the HU) in my *cough*Saturn*cough* and I have about 10 hours into it and am about half done.

Thanks!! She generously let me drive it to work today! Unfortunately, it's raining:(

Yeah, I know it's stock:) But to me it's scary fast. I haven't driven anything but Mark VIII's and Explorers for 10 years. So a Mustang Cobra with 305hp is fast compared to what I'm used to.

Seems like hes been working on his for a month.

Seems like hes been working on his for a month.

I'm pretty sure i started the rear comps at the beginning of this month. Waited a little bit and did the fronts, waited a couple days and started the dd. As said above i tried to do a little every day or so......

It wasn't a "simple" install. A simple install would've been replacing the h/u w/ a single din and replacement 5x7's useing elec tape to secure connections in a traditional car stereo setup.. I had to make/paint the 6.5" adapters f+r and new tweeter mounts with very few options to cut the wood. Good ones atleast...I Soldered every disconnect connection at the x-overs,speakers and h/u, a little over 60 solders for everything. Used wire ties to clean up the install and make sure it's safe everywhere. Labeled every wire for location and polarity. Added disconnect's between the door and door panel where the crossovers are and soldered those too. Thats so if I have to take the panel off the door all i have to do is disconnect them and not worry about unsrcewing/screwing all the inputs back into the x-over..Took off the entire rear panels and layed deadner down. Ran new rca's and remote wire. Added a new 150a fuse block. New amp ground. Trimmed the dash to get the dd to fit. Modified the dd kit to fit. Added bypass and Uninstalled my old loc. Just to name a few..........

So Laser, this was not a simple install. I'm glad you were able to do such a fantastic job in such a short time frame on you're car. Mad prop's to you.

Wasnt ment to be condecending. If you are only devoting an hour every couple days then I can see the time frame it took. I dont do stuff like lable each wire polarity cause thats why wires are different colors. I dont soldier every connection cause on screw terminals its better to have as much of the wire touching as possible.
I didnt realize you made your own adapter plates. I lucked out and already had some. If I didnt then I would have been lazy and spent $5 for some pre-made ones.

As of last night it's all done. It sounds alot clearer then i was expecting. Gets very loud and the mids and highs are getting no complaints from me as of now. Only had one screw up once i was able to test the speakers, Mid wasn't working in the back left location. I put the input wire for the xover into the tweeter slot . I was giving it full range.. So i had to take apart the rear panel again and wire it correctly. Luckily i did'nt turn it up loud so there was no damage to the tweeter. Fixed that so it's golden.
I love the Pioneer 3200dvd. I have to keep my hands off of it while driving though or I won't have a car anymore. I also have a b&w lincoln logo set as the wallpaper:)

k...I like to label them even if the wire states + or -. Some wires makers make it a point to use the thinest/similiar colored stripe as a neg indication. If the wire i used was a simple red + and red/blk - it would've cut out some of the hassle. And if i decide to sell the car to some idiot (highly unlikely) it's right there for him in writing..Just being anal.
I was going to buy the plates but they were like 14 shipped/pair each on ebay...I wasn't going to spend 30 bucks when i can make my own for free..I did want them though. Sure ass hell would've saved me some time.

Got the old faded tint removed and replaced. The tint guy was not happy when he tried to remove the crap on the back window but he got it and it looks wonderful.

...now onto the windshield replacement due to gritty wiper arms!
