It's possible that the fan clutch has locked up. I had a 5.0 mustang with that problem, course it wasn't as big as a problem in that car, the fan would just run as fast as the crankshaft. But in the LS, if its putting drag on the rest of the peripherals, it could be causing some problems...

ATF means Automatic Transmission Fluid.... any auto parts store will have it.

Fan fluid is Mercon ATF III
