2001 Lincoln LS8 in Virginia (757)

I try to help you out KidL, and he argues(we ARE arguing somewhere else!). I just stand my ground. Every windbag runs out of air eventually.LOL! don-ohio :)^)

Given the argument over the pressurized and depressurized. I see no use siding with anyone given I'm not sure who is COMPLETELY right. The only way I see who works better for MY SPECIFIC SITUATION is to try the options.

However, I will say. With my luck of overheating, I had the cap on tight, creating pressure. I could not drive more than 12 blocks from my house without smoking coming out profusely.

I then decided that I NEEDED to make it to work that day. I drove back home and decided to shoot my shot.

I loosed the cap one turn from tight and drove all the way to work.

On the way there I would:

1. Stop at least 3 cars away from the stop light to keep some sort of air getting to the engine.
2. If there were no way to effectively do (1). I would drive off the main road I was on into a gas station or offset road just to keep air.
3. Keep the heat on high even tho I do not have heat nor ac at the moment.

Now, I'm not sure if it were because of all the weird extra work I did or just a stroke of luck. I made it to work doing 60mph the entire way there including dropping down to 45mph when on public roads.

I immediately opened my hood when I got to work anticipating a large cloud of smoke from the engine and what do I get? Nothing, Not so much as steam.

I did notice a bit of a loss of water in the degas bottle which of course I have 4 bottles in my car. The loss was no more than the space between the Hot and Cold Max Fill lines.

I'm not encouraging this, nor am I saying this works. I will say after driving there and back, I didn't have the issues I had every other day.

I'll try it again when I go back to work again this week. I am indeed babying the engine. When I say baby, I mean...... baby. As scared as a paranoid-ocd-epileptic- teenager.

Oh, the drive from my home to work is approx 40mins.

Way to go,KidL! YOU finally got up the courage to try something different. No one else has this courage that I've talked to yet. You made it with a limping cooling system and no pressure. If you'd had that cap tight you'd have never made it with the bad end on that pipe,I don't believe. Just think if your fan was working and you had a 60/40 mix how well it would cool for you. don-ohio :)^)

At this point I'm trying anything that SOUNDS as if it has some sense behind it. It doesn't matter if others think it doesn't. I'm the one doing it.

Good for you,KidL.............I gotta get to bed now....another 12 hr, shift tomorrow. I hope you get that fan fixed really soon. don-ohio :)^)

Washed, waxed, tire shine.. pretty little big body baby.

They really ARE good-looking cars. I gotta get the sealant out soon.I use KLASSE polish and KLASSE sealant from Germany. It really protects. don-ohio :)^)

Don: Indeed they are. I love the look. I wish it were a bit more aggressive in the front end, but I've got a hell of a plan for that later down the road.

You know,KidL,I love my ivory parchment paint on the V8, but nothing IMO beats blue, black or the ceramic tri-coat white that is on my V6.
One thing about the ivory parchment though....it doesn't look dirty until the car is REALLY dirty.THAT I like! don-ohio :)^)

So... I ran into these issues today ... removing the actuator on my car...

1. This liquid. I was told it's a mix of oil and coolant. I don't have smoke or milky oil.

2. It smells and has a bit of hydraulic fluid in it.

3. Upon spinning the fan, the fluid came back out of the pump itself.

4. I've got that stuck bolt in the pump as others have talked about. Is it a 13mm or 12? I bought a set of bolt extractors and the 13 was way too big.
The raplacement actuator Head connector is from a v6. So now I know that the actuators are the same. I now have 3 of them, 2 from v8s and 1 v6. They all had the correct fluid coming out of the pump, reservoir, and actuator. So I assume those worked fine.

5. I removed a fan from another car. I left the motor on the fan. I'll be back tomorrow to get it.

6. Sigh. I know it wasn't an electrical problem because I swapped out the removed part with the others and had the same issue.

7. My needle actually dropped below the operating temperature of the car a few times. What could that mean? I read it somewhere but now I can't find that post anywhere! !

A little help please?

Looks like someone (before you, I assume) topped off the fan reservoir with water or coolant. Maybe one of those quick change places...

That's exactly what I was thinking. I figured someone did something completely wrong.

I keep getting told I have a blown headgasket but I see no symptoms?

Blown head gasket usually causes white smoke, steam from one exhaust pipe. Also usually bubbles always streaming up into degas causing overpressure, not to mention the usual engine miss at that cylinder. don-ohio

...I keep getting told I have a blown headgasket but I see no symptoms?

Yes, lots of people keep making this mistake because of the similar symptoms. I wonder how many LSes were condemned when all they needed were some plastic parts replaced?

My daughter-in-law took her Taurus into Firestone in Indy to find out why steam coming from car. They told her head gasket,500+ dollars,I believe.
She called me and gave me symptoms..............I told her probably a radiator hose or some part leaking antifreeze. My boy checked it out..................blown radiator hose. I hadn't removed the pressure from their car's system yet.
I'm going over there tomorrow( 440 miles round trip on my Unpressurized 03 V8 LS). When I get there,I'll recommend unpressurizing both their cars if they have 60/40 mix or I can adjust what they have to that mix. don-ohio :)^)

Yea, I kept saying that I had no smoke. Idk, hopefully it doesn't blow...

However, i think I bought the wrong car... today's strike of luck...

Went to the yard, forgot a tool... drove back home caught a flat, now I'm assed out

Has to be fixed with a plug,KidL. Take it to a reputable tire dealer and get it plugged until you can afford to replace it. don-ohio :)^)

They shouldn't charge much for a plug,KidL.............you already have it removed. Get someone to run you to the tire store. don-ohio :)^)

Empty.... pockets lol...

If I could I would tho. Guess ill just sit here and miss the half off yard sale

Well, you can plug it yourself with a SLIME or other brand plug kit from Wally world. Not as dependable as a tire shop, but follow directions and get the air back in it and it might hold. You might have to put in 2 or more plugs if hole is too big. don-ohio :)^)

Sam's Club does free tire patching, if you are a member.

Wow! Didn't know that little tidbit,Joe. Maybe I better get a membership? don-ohio :)^)

Yea.u def should lol.. I didn't even know it was half off because of easter, I just so happen to find out yesterday while I was there. I've got the damn fan and pump in the back seat of that silver car..smh. lawd..I need to get it today.. I can fool with my actuator another day
