What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Over the weekend, put a good wash and wax on the ol' girl.

Also tried to install the blue SMD LED's I got for the EATC but turns out they are the wrong bulbs. I got T5 LED's but the bulbs in the EATC are itty bitty tiny things like the ones in the message center buttons. Anybody know what the number is for those? I would like to get LED's for them too.

I dint know that the calipers were the same? Or are you just talking the rotors? (you have me googling now)

the correct year vette calipers are a bolt on. they are made by PBR, as are the cobra pieces. they just don't have a pony or say cobra or anything. they will use the cobra 13 rotors.

Good to know, I would have just taken a grinder to the pony anyway, plus rock auto list them cheaper on the Corvettes then the cobras. So any 13's set from an 84-96 will work, calipers and rotors?

88-96 vette PBR caliper. (i have seen some that say CORVETTE on them. i would avoid those lol.)
and the 94-04 cobra 13" rotor.

I'd save that work for when you've got bigger brakes and the wheels you want for the 4.5s
Since it looks like you're a salvager, hunt down a C4 vette. You could probably buy the parts pretty cheap new thou. And since its off the car - paint it

good idea on the calipers, I may go that direction...BUT
that bolt patern is 5x4.75''??? so are you saying use C4 calipers, and a rotor from...???
---
btw, I've already got the wheels and tires (5 of 'em) and I'm trying to minimize my labor- the fix it list is way too long on both cars

I 'think' I've read enough about the brake debate to where I'm convinced I'll survive w/ factory brakes...I'm certain there is disagreement on that

looking good T-wood...check with Trippen Out @ the EATC lights, i think he got it figured out

My justification in larger brakes is simple.. Ford used larger brakes on a smaller car (96-98 Cobra) that has a similar power plant..

i have a pair of Corvette calipers i have painted them silver with caliper paint u will neeed to find brackets for a 88-94 c5 corvetter im willing to sell for the right price u cover shipping

I found all 4 at a salvage yard from an '84 vette for $25 each...rotors are available also...BUT, those lug patterns are 4.75''. right? so with vette calipers, what rotor is used for 4.5'' Cobra wheels? this is starting to seem like one of those ideas/mods that's more work and trouble than it's worth..I've yet to have trouble stopping, but then again-I don't race

No. You just use cobra rotors. You are over complicating this. Put on cobra rotors. Bolt on vette calipers. Done.

I have no problem stopping with factory brakes either...they will stay with the car until she die's. -20 degrees here, the blazer won't start, not even a noise but the mark starts right up and run's like it's 1994 again. Back bags are 19 years old this year and holding air just fine. Just turned 199k tonight on the way home. Dam I love this frick'n car!

ok.

research time.

88-96 corvettes and 94-04 mustang Cobras have the same basic caliper on their 13" brake cars. the newer mustangs, 99-04, have a bigger piston in their brake calipers. 40 mm over the old 38 mm.

the corvette and cobra caliper bracket seems to be different. the rotors run different offsets.

so you need:
calipers, from either car.
cobra caliper brackets.
cobra 13" rotors.

It doesn't really have anything to do with Cobras being used for racing because Cobra brakes aren't that good either when put to race use. Ford underbraked almost every car they produced until the late 90s early 2000s. The Mark was just a victim of corporate policy. Small rotors with large single piston calipers promote rotor warp and brake fade especially in an almost 4000lb car.

Cobras are for racing, Mark VIII's are for.....?

Racing with Style... duh

And this is why I cringe when I hear some of you want to do the work yourself...
This guy had actually tried to tie the brakes together with a bandage

So if you don't KNOW what you're doing, just leave it alone

-----well, I am not in tech school and no one is gonna come walk me through it... I'm not a professional mechanic, and may not even be a top-notch shade tree mechanic, I would never do THAT BS in the picture

swapping the whole rotor/caliper/hub assemblies seems simple enough for me to do...2, maybe 3 times :shifty:

For me, mine is for perfecting. An amazing car with upgrade potential. I'll get cobra brakes this year. At least I just looked at the Wildwoods, although they are only twice as much, I can resist.

New ecu, rear bushings, and a carwash.. Lets go to the coast baby!! And so we did.

Finally colored my rear brakes. Relubed everything since I had it apart

I want larger rear brakes now, they look so tiny compared to the fronts ,and it would be sweet if they could be relocated to leading instead of trailing
