What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

I washed and vacuumed my awesome Mark VIII and i saw some area's on the molding that need attention and one on the mirror housing.

Finally got the exhaust manifold bolt torched out and had a new bolt put in. now its quiet again at least from the front.
Ran her through the car wash just in time to get enough road salt on her to make her white!

Oh and got a quote to do the oil pan gasket, its gonna run 320.00 with new gasket.
Anyone want to say if this is a good deal for it? can it be done cheaper? Is there someone who can do it cheaper?
Doug, Doug, Doug??? :)

And then we were able to replace the Accumulators for 1-2 and 2-3 while in there left out the lower 1-2 but kept the 2-3 spring in.
We also put in the J-mod plate for the 98 trans.. I agree much firmer shifts and after all of this.

Bill

Bill, I keep reading that leaving out the 1-2 lower spring causes extremely hard shifts and people always go back in to put in the lower spring. Does your trans shift really hard or are you pretty happy with it? I will be doing a J mod next month and would like to hear from someone who has done it recently.

I will be totally honest,
The shift from 1-2 is very firm, it is not however in my opinion, Necksnapping, I did notice I can break the tires free at any time if I am half or more on the pedal. so take that as you want. I like it. the shift from 2-3 is a bit week, I may actually pull the lower spring from the 2-3 as I choose to leave it in for fear it would be too hard, I think I may remove it as the shift is slow and sluggish.
I dont regret removing the lower spring at all. 1-2 is lightning quick for a shift.
2-3 is quick but feels like a delay in shift,
my shift is 0-10 or 15 MPH for 1-2 and then real quick into 2-3 shift and then by the time Im at 40MPH its already in OD
Now if i'm in the gas pedal, the shifts are prolonged and 1-2 holds to 40-50MPH then rips the tires free at 1-2 shift, 2nd runs me to 70-80. so I know it works well
Good luck with your j-mod.
Choose your options well.
faster but firmer shift, leave in springs, direct shift pull the lower and remove 2-3 spring.

i backed my 97 in my shop today, put it on jack stands, changed my oil, then i started at the back and worked my way to the front with purple power and a scrub brush on my creeper and i scrubbed down the whole chassis of my car, wtf is wrong with me? washed it all down, blew it all dry, let it down and washed the whole car, vacuum'd it out, wiped the interior down with mequiars natural shine, and hung a yankee candle mid summers night air freshner in it. she looks sexy as hell! on my way home i adjusted my stereo gains and after blastin some big tymers i have a ring in my ear now god that thing is way too loud for my aging ears!

Great answers Bill, I'll probably leave it out to see how I like it. Your description sounds like its very liveable. Before I do the J mod, I'm gonna put one of those drain plug kits into the deep pan so I can easily drain the pan in case I don't like the settings.

Bought some front coilovers from my buddy Roy in Valrico, and got to check out his badass Mark VII, '80 Trans Am, and ragtop fox 'stang. I scored the struts for $100 and got a neon taillight and ballast thrown in for free just for kicks. Now I am going after a good priced rear kit.

blastin some big tymers

R U kiddin' me? C'mon dude...

Nah, I'm just messing with you, I know I am still fly. :D

i dont listen to big tymers, its my buddies cd and it was on my work bench so i put it in to adjust my stereo, there is very little rap i listen too, i'd rather have rings in my ear from some godsmack or alice in chains.

I feel like there is some very uncomfortable gay-lusting going on here. For the rest of this thread I'm gonna clinch, I feel unsafe.

Yeah I'm not sure exactly what's going on with those 2.

Anyway i got these today, they look in new shape and I'm sure they'll feel great!

check them struts along the top cap, right under the big nut in the center, see that big washer on top, look at the rubber under that big washer and tell me if you see a split anywhere in that rubber on either one.

they never leaked down i could turn off the air ride switch for over a month and they never leaked, the previous owner replaced all 4 corners and the compressor at the lincoln dealership right before I bought it. That was in october of 09 there is only 20k or so on them

I am fairly sure I have blown shocks up front that clunk so will swap these in mine and see if the clunk stops. If so then I need to call Max and see about warrenty since they are under a year old. Big thing was the compressor since mine has been off for a couple months now cause its weak and gives me the dreaded "check air ride" from timing out.
